We’re looking to create on-disc bonus content for the First Man DVD and Blu-ray, and to market the home entertainment release on digital and social platforms.
We received over 200 amazing concepts from the First Man Bonus Content Concepts project and are looking to YOU to bring them to life!
Coming to theaters October 12, Universal Pictures’ First Man tells the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon. With Oscar®- winning director Damien Chazelle and actor Ryan Gosling teaming up (again!), First Man provides a visceral, first-person account of the sacrifices and the cost—on Neil Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.
Working with Tongal, Universal wants to see your pitches on the following winning concepts from the previous project:
The Moon Landing Today
A short doc exploring how much of our modern world was born out of the technological breakthroughs made as part of the moon effort: from rocket technology to life-support systems, from the lightweight materials in your running shoes to protective coatings and solar panels, the technological legacy of the lunar missions is fascinating and all around us.
Behind the Scenes of Space
Show how many people it takes to deliver a single person in space. From equipment handlers, medical staff, engineers, maintenance, training... space tourism is a neat idea, but it will involve a small army of people prepping them and safely delivering them there and back again. Show us some of these units of people that don't get the limelight, and what their work involves doing. Show the support systems and networks needed for everything from communications to eating your favorite food in space.
Note: Think about incorporating infographics for social in your deliverables.
The Language of NASA
Create an interesting segment that details and highlights all the important, critical, and quirky word language that is unique to NASA and the space-traveling experience. So many phrases we've all heard before – and many we haven't – but what is the true meaning and history behind the words, phrases and such. Are they thought out? Did many just happen as in-the-moment occurrence and have since taken on longer life? What language is influenced by science? What by military? What by other means?
A Particular Day: Stories from the Day Of
If you've ever lived through a truly historical event, you will never forget where you were, who you were with and what you were doing on that particular hour of that particular day.
In this extra we'll hear the stories from the down-the-street neighbor to the people who were in the control room; the families huddled around the televisions and the man at the local bar. The emotions, the inspiration, or even the fear. Let's uncover it all as if we could relive the day too.
Note: For this concept, lean into the moon landing uniting the country during a tumultuous time.
