Create a really fun and imaginative suite of webcomic-style illustrations to celebrate T-Mobile's latest sustainability achievements in celebration of Earth Week next month.

Earth Week is not just a celebration of this amazing planet, it’s also a great opportunity to be reminded of the role we all play in taking care of our world, and to renew our commitment to reducing the impact we have on our environment. T-Mobile is no stranger to this - they're fully committed to being an industry leader in environmental sustainability. They're already sourcing 100% of their electricity usage from renewable sources, with plans to continue to match all future electricity consumption with renewable energy investments, and they've also signed onto The Climate Pledge to reinforce their net-zero by 2040 commitment. They're proud of these achievements, and for Earth Week this year they want to be able to let people know what they've been doing - but they also want to have some fun with it, and that's where you come in.

The goal of this project is to create a suite of webcomic-style static images that detail T-Mobile's achievements in environmental sustainability, with one image (or carousel of images) for each of the 5 days of Earth Week, which is April 17th to April 21st. We've included the messaging that you'll need to cover down in the Background, and you'll see that it can be a little dense. These images are intended for use on social media, and since it might be difficult to contain all of the messaging within one image, you'll have the ability to choose whether you want to tackle each day's messaging as a single image, or as a carousel of 2 or 3 images. It's possible that some days are a single image, and some days are a carousel, but it's also going to be dependent on the creative approach you take to your webcomic.

In terms of that creative approach, we're talking about a webcomic, so you want something that feels illustrated an artistic, even if not hand drawn, and it should bring a lot of playfulness to the messaging. T-Mobile has actually expressed some interest in approaching this with a pop-scientist character a la Bill Nye, but they are not fully committed to that, and really they just need something that lends a lot of fun visual interest to an asset that's REALLY heavy on text. If you think you can create a cool webtoon scientist for this, give it a shot, but you should also keep in mind that we're trying to celebrate T-Mobile's achievements, and we don't want to minimize those achievements, so be sure that he is less "mad scientist," and more of a fun character that we can use to explain everything in a snackable way.

This content is also primarily intended for T-Mobile employees to share with their own family, friends, and professional contacts on their personal social media feeds, and that means that it cannot look overly corporate. Generally speaking, T-Mobile's the Un-carrier - think cool, clever, even a little quirky. We've shared a ton of other existing T-Mobile content examples down in the Background for inspiration too - you'll see there's A LOT of variety there.

For your pitch, we highly recommend submitting a proof of concept static image for Day #1 or Day #2 along with your Treatment. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES:

  • T-Mobile employee social feeds including LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

  • You CANNOT use photos of the actual famous figures that are being quoted in the static images.
  • You should adhere to certain elements of the T-Mobile brand guidelines, but a few specific callouts below:
    • The primary logo to use is the full T-Mobile logo.
    • Always make Magenta (#E20074) the hero color in designs.
    • Other primary brand colors are Dark Magenta (#861B54), Dark Gray (#6A6A6A), Light Gray (#E8E8E8), Black (#000000), and White (#FFFFFF).
    • The official brand font is TeleNeo; the font will be provided to the selected creator.
  • Your video should avoid lots of yellow (an old Sprint color) and also competitor colors (e.g. Verizon's reds, AT&T's blues).

By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a submission. Though most projects on our platform do move forward, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any submissions via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

THE MESSAGING:

  • Day #1 - T-Mobile is the first in U.S. wireless to set a science-based net-zero target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This includes all three emission scopes: Scope 1 is our operations and facilities; Scope 2 is purchased electricity; and Scope 3 is our customers using their devices and the suppliers we work with.
    • Additional Notes: We also want to create a  breakdown of what those SBTis are in an eye-catching way. without understanding the SBTis, the narrative doesn't make as much sense. check out THIS for a deeper breakdown of what they are.
  • Day #2 - T-Mobile is powered by 100% clean energy. To help reach the 100% benchmark, the company invested in enough wind and solar power annually to account for every unit of electricity consumed.
  • Day #3 - T-Mobile signed onto The Climate Pledge to reinforce their net-zero 2040 commitment.
    • Additional Notes: T-Mobile has provided some additional context HERE on what that means, and you can also find some assets and guidelines for The Climate Pledge HERE.
  • Day #4 - T-Mobile significantly cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from 2016 levels. We achieved our science-based targets of a 97% reduction in combined absolute scope 1 (operations and facilities) and scope 2 (purchased electricity) GHG emissions, as well as  a 16% reduction in scope 3 emissions per customer.
  • Day #5 - Thisone doesn’t have to tie strongly to any messaging. We can be more relaxed and go for a spirited “Happy Earth Day” or “We’re making progress—and we won’t stop until we get there!” creative that features the T-Earth logo. However, if you'd like to take a pass at more involved messaging, do consider that it will need to tie into the series.

PREVIOUS T-MOBILE CONTENT: This is some of the recent video and GIF content created on Tongal, and they're all great examples of how much stylistic diversity and freedom you have in approaching this project.

  • Coolest Quarterly Report GIF - This pop-art approach is a great example of an "unexpected" approach that's heavy on style.
  • T-Mobile Travel Benefits Video - Seemingly hand drawn, this takes a LOT of messaging and give it a cartoony feel to make everything more engaging and watchable.
  • Black History Month Quote Videos - To bring a simple quote to life, this video incorporates a dynamic layered design and enough movement to keep things feeling energetic, while bringing in graphic design and T-Mobile employee imagery fitting the quote's theme.
  • Motorola Edge GIF - With a playful use of stock imagery and motion graphics, this brings a lot of messaging to a short GIF that uses its visuals to reinforce the messaging and keep things feeling fresh throughout.
  • Careers & Opportunities Videos - Full of energy and a tactile playfulness, this brings an almost stop-motion / mixed media element stylistically, even though it's all digital.
  • Super Security New Product Video - This video is simply promoting a security camera, but it packs a LOT of personality and tremendous amounts of energy, so it's really surprising and fun, and the sort of pulpy comic book detective vibe fits the security theme well.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed out in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables, both in terms of what we can expect to see, and how you’ll make it. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • PROOF-OF-CONCEPT ARTWORK (Optional): If you want, you may create a proof of concept showing how you'd approach design if greenlit. Upload an image of your Artwork in either PNG or JPG format.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • TREATMENT: This project requires treatment approval. The treatment should describe how you plan to execute the video and how you plan to bring the storytelling to life visually. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your treatment and ask you to submit a new version. There may be up to multiple rounds of feedback until a treatment is approved by the Sponsor.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.
