Apply for the opportunity to receive a $750 production stipend to create a polished 3D video as a mentee in Tongal’s Content Mentorship Program with rockstar 3D digital artist and designer fesq, whose recent work includes a Coca-Cola activation on The Sphere in Las Vegas, live stage graphics for the Esports World Championship, and the music video for the Borderlands 4 release theme song. Don't miss this opportunity to take your skills to the next level with guidance from an industry pro!

Digital art surrounds us in our increasingly virtual worlds, ranging from mundane digital billboards to flashy projection-mapped live stage setups. Knowing which tools to use and how to use them is a daunting task for up-and-coming 3D digital artists, but once mastered, they're able to help you create some seriously impressive work. That's why we're so excited to be partnering with an incredibly talented 3D artist, and fellow Tongal community member, to lead a Branded Content Mentorship Program focused on 3D digital art. Based in Brazil, but with work that has spanned the globe, the digital artist and designer fesq has created mindblowing 3D art pieces on screens of all sizes. He's contributed to Coca-Cola's activation on the sphere, to the live stage design for the Esports World Championship, and most recently, he directed a seriously badass music video to celebrate the launch of Borderlands 4.

If you're a 3D artist who knows the basics, this program could help take you to the next level. This workshop is part of Tongal's Branded Content Mentorship Program, an on-going initiative designed to provide creators with the information, tools, skills and portfolio links needed to become savvy in the ways of a wide range of digital content through lessons, one-on-one education, and completing portfolio work that creators can use to position themselves in front of brands. Over the course of three months, two 3D artists will be chosen from applicants to bring a 3D video to life under the mentorship of fesq.

The ideal candidate already has 1-2 years of experience as a 3D artist, and is proficient in either Cinema 4D or Blender. Importantly, they should be seeking to create one strong, conceptually coherent project rather than a demo reel of random tests. As with any mentorship program, the value received is a direct correlation to the amount of effort and dedication you put into the program.

Check out more information on the program, and links to fesq's work, in the Background, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

  • One featured 3D video (16x9)
  • Two social cutdowns (9x16, 1x1)

EXPECTED TIMELINE: HERE

EXPOSURE: We expect content will be used on the platforms below, but if casting talent, be sure they review our required Talent Release before they're cast, as we CANNOT guarantee that usage is limited to these platforms. You should also review our Music providers in the Project Requirements, as well as the platform best practices.

  • Mentee's Portfolio & personal social channels

ABOUT THE  TONGAL BRANDED CONTENT MENTORSHIP PROGRAM:

Tongal's Branded Content Mentorship Program is a new initiative designed to equip emerging creators with the tools and experience to excel in a branded content environment. By developing real-world lessons around branded content skill development and pairing emerging creators with seasoned Mentors from within the Tongal community, the program will teach Mentees how to pitch creative, interface with clients, meet deadlines, address feedback, and deliver a final product. Each Mentee will work towards developing a specific skill based on their Mentor’s lesson plan (e.g. editing a video for social, or animating a logo) that will help them further their career as a branded content creator. By the end of the program, each Mentee will walk away with a completed piece of content for their own portfolios.

ABOUT TONGAL:

Tongal believes creativity drives human potential and that everyone has the potential to be creative. We empower Creators by connecting them to each other and to opportunities for top networks, studios, and brands, setting into motion a never-ending cycle of opportunity and growth.

RELEVANT WORK FROM THE PROGRAM'S MENTOR FESQ:

In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors. Unless specifically requested, there's no need to include a budget with your submission.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content.

  • CONTENT MENTORSHIP QUESTIONNAIRE (REQUIRED):
    1. Short Bio. - Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you based, and what’s your background or current focus in 3D art?

      2. What tools do you currently use? - (e.g., Cinema 4D, Blender, Redshift, Octane, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.)

      3. What’s your experience level so far? - Still studying / self-learning; 1–2 years creating personal projects; Some commercial or freelance experience; More than two years professional experience.

      4. What’s your main goal for this mentorship? - What would “success” look like for you at the end of the program?

      7. Share one project or artist that inspires you. - Tell us why, so we can understand what kind of visual direction or creative energy you connect with.

  • LINKS (Optional): To your previous video work and/or portfolio, reel, or websit. Please specify your role (producer, director, editor, artist, etc.) if applicable.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.

PRE-PRODUCTION BIBLE & APPROVALS: Prior to the commencement of actual production, creators MUST prepare a singular pre-production "bible" document with the elements contained below, and that document MUST receive final approval from the Sponsor. We recommend that you use the bible template we provide HERE, or something very similar. The bible can be presented in stages as different elements are ready for review (i.e. it's not expected that storyboards, if required, are ready with your first draft). Apart from the below, you're also welcome to include other key items that you think would be helpful to communicate your plan (e.g. moodboards, lighting, music, shot list, etc.).

Note that there may be multiple rounds of feedback until elements are approved, and if you begin production before you have received final approval, you may need to reshoot or reanimate at your own expense.

  • TREATMENT Describe how you plan to execute the content, and how you plan to bring it to life visually. Feel free to use concept art, references, style frames, or mock-ups. If relevant, share additional information about your team, and your process.
  • STORYBOARD: Include individual images for each key beat in your video. It is best practice to include scripted dialogue or VO, along with on-screen text or disclaimers, under each panel in our Storyboards. If there are multiple unique videos, ensure you submit a Storyboard for each video.
  • LOCATION: Present images of your potential filming locations, and submit at least two options per location. If possible, please include context on where you intend to film within each location, what angles you might use, or how you might dress the location.

For convenience, we've provided some helpful templates that you can consider using for pre-production materials, and they can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Looking for help? Post crew and production opportunities connected to Tongal projects on Backlot. Backlot includes search tools to help you find collaborators and crew by role, skill set, location, and more, for productions of any size and type. Tongal also supports inclusivity in all productions, and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find additional options for staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: Once Content has been submitted and the initial Production Phase completed, greenlit creators will enter into Revisions. Creators will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor's feedback. Check out our Filmmaker Resource Portal to access helpful post-production resources like Text-Safe Guides for different platforms, Project File Organization Tutorial, Export Presets, and Captioning services.

MUSIC: If you use music from a library for your content, you MUST use one of Tongal's music providers: Universal Production Music, PrimalHouse, or Slipstream Music. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project, and will not require a Music Release Form. To learn more, click on any of the providers' names above.

If you use original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. Please ensure your composer reviews and signs this form BEFORE beginning their work.

STOCK FOOTAGE: Tongal has partnered with the stock footage library Storyblocks, which can be used to source video clips, photography, and After Effects templates for your video submission to this project. Video or photo content from Storyblocks is available at no charge, solely for incorporation into submissions on this project, and will not require a separate Release Form. If identifiable people or intellectual property appears in a video clip or photo, you may only utilize assets that are clearly marked “Model released: Yes” or “Property release: Yes” on the clip description pages. You may NOT use any audio.

If you intend to use Storyblocks, inform your Tongal producer, and an account will be created for you to access the library. Once assets are approved for delivery, you must provide a complete list of all Storyblocks content that you used via our template HERE.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. You are responsible for any costs associated with the hard drive and shipping. Tongal also reserves the right to request all raw files associated with the project.

To ensure a smoother delivery, please review the Export Presets, Specifications, and Project File Organization Tutorial in our Filmmaker Resource Portal.
