The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is looking for a talented 2D full-service animation team to produce a suite of 11 short videos to help educate leaders on how to handle different behaviors and scenarios that arise in classrooms while teaching.

As the teaching landscape has evolved significantly in the last few years, so must the knowledge and strategies teachers employ to educate the young minds of tomorrow. With this in mind, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has considered the issues at hand and is focusing its attention on eleven specific topics that encapsulate how these behaviors can negatively affect the classroom, and methods that teachers can use to handle them appropriately with kindness and an attitude towards learning. For all 11 videos, the client will be providing the outlines and your team will then be required to draft scripts based on each outline.

The Church is looking to the Tongal community to create a suite of eleven, :60-:90 second animated 2D videos from one proficient, full-service 2D animation studio. The plan for the greenlit team is to start first with one video that allows both The Church and the animation studio a chance to get acclimated to working with one another, and then if the pilot is successful, the Church may proceed with the remaining ten videos with this team. This animation studio will need to have a solid director and copywriter on their team who can take each of the eleven topics and turn them into compelling stories that positively and accurately depict both the issue and the solution within the short time frame of each video.

From a creative standpoint, the goal of these videos is to give leaders within The Church more confidence in working with youth, and teaching them from a place of kindness despite the potential conflict. Within these 11 lessons, the setting will feature five classrooms with five different sets of characters, so in Pre-Production the greenlit team should plan on creating detailed animatics that display a diversity of classrooms and characters.

One final execution point to consider as you gather work samples to share with this client is that onscreen text will not be featured in these videos, so your scripts' messages will all be conveyed through imagery and voice-over. Therefore, you will be required to source VO artists that have work samples for the client to review while in pre-production.

As not all details can be shared yet, if you are interested in being considered for this project, please be sure to submit your team to the Pitch Qualification Phase. If you're selected to create a pitch, the client will provide outlines for the 11 video topics.

THE PROCESS

• In the Pitch Qualification Phase, we want to see who's interested, available, and has the right team and the right style for the job. You'll be asked to briefly introduce yourself, your team, and provide links to relevant past work. Please include the writer that you plan to collaborate with and include links to their past work.
• Four greenlit Pitch Qualification creators will be advanced to the Pitch Phase, and given $500 in funding to put together a full pitch, including a full treatment for the series. For this, you may include sample scripts or storyboards, photo boards, mood boards, and preliminary VO casting. We will also ask for your bid to create one video and a bid to create all 11 videos.
• The sponsor will evaluate these pitches, and select one creator to move forward.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES: 

• All characters in the videos must have realistic hair and skin tones.
• All characters in the videos must have faces.
• If chosen to submit a fully fleshed-out pitch, you MUST feature a director, writer, and line producer as part of your team and detail their experience.
• All videos must go through the client approval process, and adhere to their modesty standards, as well as Church rules/policies, etc, which will be detailed to you upon being greenlit.

OPEN BID: 

• This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal up to $163,000 for the series and up to $15,000 for the pilot. If it makes sense, you may feel free to submit multiple versions of your bid at a budget, target, and reach price point.
• By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

PITCH QUALIFICATION PHASE:

In order to be considered for the Pitch Phase, you must include the below materials in your Pitch Qualification Submission. This phase gives filmmakers the opportunity to submit a 500-word synopsis that tells us a bit more about your aesthetic as a creator. Four creators will be given $500 to develop treatments as part of the Pitch Phase.

• TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing why you are interested in and think you could be a great fit for this project. Please also let us know the team you're assembling for this project including writer.
  
  
• LINKS (REQUIRED): To your relevant previous work. Please specify your role (director, designer, animator, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

• WRITER (REQUIRED): Please provide information on the writer, you will use along with samples of their work.

PITCH PHASE:

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. While you will be provided with all 11 outlines, the client will specify one outline for you to create sample character designs, background designs, and a script for the pitch. Your treatment and bid should include both your approach for one video as well as all 11 videos.

• TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this project.
  
  
• TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. We would like to see how you would approach the different aspects of this team. Feel free to include your crew and examples of their previous work. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.
  
  
• CHARACTER DESIGNS (REQUIRED): Character design examples based on one provided outline. 

• BACKGROUND DESIGNS (REQUIRED): Background design examples based on one provided outline.

• SCRIPT (REQUIRED): This should include a script based on one provided outline.

• VO CASTING OPTIONS (REQUIRED): Please provide potential VO talent you would use.
  
  
• STORYBOARDS (REQUIRED): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

• BID/BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, and the Sponsor would like each producer to create all of the content listed in the Deliverables section within a budget total of up to $163,000. Please also include a bid for the pilot video up to $15,000.

• PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives the creator the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to animation, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

• SCRIPT: This project requires multiple script approvals. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the Sponsor.
• CASTING: This project requires Voice Over casting approval. If the Sponsor does not approve any of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options. 
• CHARACTER DESIGN: This project requires character design approval. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until the designs are approved by the Sponsor.
• BACKGROUND DESIGN: This project requires background design approval. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until the designs are approved by the Sponsor.
• STORYBOARD/ ANIMATICS: This project requires storyboard/ animatic approval. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until the animatic is approved by the Sponsor.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. REVISION REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback. MUSIC: If you use any music from a library for your content, you MUST use one of Tongal's three music providers - Jingle Punks, Universal Production Music and Epidemic Sound. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project, and will not require a Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the providers’ names above.

If you choose to use custom or original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. Please ensure your composer reviews and signs this form BEFORE beginning their work.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. You are responsible for the costs associated the hard drive and shipping.

1. In addition to the standard Tongal W-9, Winner Affidavit, and IP Assignment, greenlit Video creators MUST also provide Talent, Location, Music (or other) Releases for all assets appearing in their Videos, as well as a photograph/headshot OR copy of a photo ID for all On-camera Talent releases. You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec to claim your earnings.
   
   
2. Unless provided otherwise, all work must be your own original creation and free of any copyrighted material. You shall provide detailed information of your work regarding the source, the creator and background information as requested by Tongal.
   
   
3. In the event you utilize any third-party materials, such as music provided by a third-party music provider not provided by Tongal, you must obtain full written license and consent from the owner of such third-party materials and provide such license and consent forms to Tongal.
   
   
4. The Sponsor will be entitled to reasonable revisions on the finished Videos without providing additional compensation. Remember it's easier to re-edit than re-shoot so try to get as much coverage as possible.
   
   
5. Preferred format for upload to the Tongal website is HD 720p and formatted for the aspect ratios listed in the Deliverables (e.g. 16x9). Acceptable file formats are .mov, .avi, .mp4, .wmv. Acceptable codecs are H.264 (MP4), MPEG-4, H.263, MPGV, WMV, DivX. Should your submission be greenlit, you will also be required to provide a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec.
   
   
6. BY SUBMITTING A VIDEO ENTRY, YOUR SUBMISSION IMMEDIATELY BECOMES THE SOLE PROPERTY OF TONGAL OR ITS ASSIGNEES – SEE OFFICIAL RULES FOR MORE DETAILS ABOUT OWNERSHIP OF ENTRIES. YOU MAY NOT PUBLICLY SHARE OR PUBLISH YOUR SUBMISSION IN ANY MANNER AND YOU MAY NOT POST OR UPLOAD YOUR SUBMISSION TO ANY WEBSITE OR VIDEO HOSTING SITE (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE OR VIMEO), WITHOUT THE PRIOR EXPRESS WRITTEN CONSENT OF TONGAL. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS REQUIREMENT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR ENTRY IN THE PROJECT.
   
   
7. You may not contact any employees or members of the Sponsor's organization, their affiliates, or any of their partners. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in disqualification of your entry in the project.
   
   
8. In addition to the judging criteria stated in the OFFICIAL RULES, Pitches will also be evaluated on that member's ability to execute the final Video based on their prior work and experience as a filmmaker.
   
   
9. Videos must be in the English language or subtitled.
   
   
10. Submissions must not portray Sponsor in a negative way, the determination of which will solely reside with Sponsor, nor can Submissions contain any profanity, offensive language, nudity or otherwise objectionable material, the determination of which is solely at the discretion of Sponsor.
    
    
11. You must be at least thirteen (13) years or older to enter.
    
    
12. The Sponsor reserves the right to repost the contest.
