Showcase the classic Doctor Who series for North American audiences by editing together clips from some of the most iconic episodes of the first seven Doctors' seasons—all of which are available to stream on BritBox.

Calling all Whovians! When it comes to iconic science fiction television, Doctor Who stands out as a classic masterpiece. Featuring a rotating cast of remarkable actors in the role of the Doctor, the series is renowned for its imaginative storytelling, inventive alien encounters, and time-traveling adventures. Its unique ability to blend science fiction with wit and heart has made it a beloved show across generations, leading to widespread acclaim and a dedicated fanbase. It's a binge-worthy experience that deserves attention, and North American audiences can now dive into the classic Doctor Who episodes on BritBox. It's time to get excited and rediscover the magic of this legendary series!

We’re looking for an editor who's a real fan of classic Doctor Who, and who can create a :30 video that brings together a dynamic mix of scenes from the first seven of the classic Doctor Who eras. We need someone who actually knows the doctors and what made audiences love them, who loves the franchise and can convey their passion with this video. This edit should be as action-packed as possible, showcasing clips from all the different classic doctors. It should appeal to both long-time fans, and intrigue unfamiliar newcomers, highlighting that BritBox offers a complete collection of classic Doctor Who. In addition to the thrilling adventures, the series features unforgettable moments and witty dialogue, so you'll want to be sure to include some memorable quotes from the various Doctors.

Craft your edit to be both gripping and nostalgic, taking viewers on a thrilling journey through the most iconic and whimsical moments of Doctor Who. Emphasize the series' unique blend of adventure and humor by creating a supercut that captures the essence of the Doctor's timeless escapades. You might consider weaving together a narrative that interweaves memorable quotes and classic scenes, or you could explore the recurring themes and motifs that define the show, and use that angle for your approach. It helps to incorporate unexpected twists and turns to keep the audience engaged, and pacing is crucial, so make sure your edit flows steadily and seamlessly by establishing a consistent pace in how you handle dialogue, sound, music, or other key elements. Importantly, since the content will play on streaming platforms and could be skippable, make sure to captivate viewers from the start, and include an iconic scene featuring the Doctor within the first 5 seconds of the video.

You must focus on the first seven Classic Doctors, so do not include any footage or imagery of the "New Who." This video is a good example of ways to cut together moments of the classic doctors together. We'd also encourage you to think of ways that you can incorporate additional imagery, graphics, or text, like in this previous video, intercutting footage with themed-graphics to captivate the audience and communicate messaging. If you're including VO or text, you may want to consider why and how entertaining the show can be. Importantly, you CANNOT use the music included in scenes, just the dialogue or sound effects within them. Considering the videos will also be reframed for 9x16 and 1x1, you should think about how you will reframe for those aspect ratios and how you may want to make slight edits to make these cuts work for where they will be living on social.

Critically, you must also work within the Adobe Suite for this project, and for your pitch submission, we're looking for you to edit a :15-:30 sample video to display how you would cut together the different clips dynamically and interestingly. We won't be able to provide assets for the initial pitch, feel free to scour YouTube and any other sources you have for the footage you need to build your edit. However, once greenlit, you can only use footage provided by the BritBox team to ensure they have full rights, so you should know exactly which seasons and episodes you are pulling from for your edit for the BritBox team to be able to easily source the correct hi-res footage for you, once in post.

Fans of the classic Doctor Who series often have a deep appreciation for many unique and lesser-known aspects of the show. Here are some things only classic Doctor Who fans might know:

  1. The TARDIS’s Chameleon Circuit: The TARDIS was designed to blend into its surroundings, but its malfunctioning "chameleon circuit" meant it was permanently stuck in the form of a British police box.
  2. The Time Lords' Society: The Time Lords, including the Doctor, come from the planet Gallifrey. Classic fans are familiar with the complexities of Time Lord society, including their strict non-interference policy.
  3. The Master: The Master, a recurring villain and fellow Time Lord, was introduced in the classic era. His complex relationship with the Doctor and his various incarnations are a significant part of the show’s lore.
  4. The Daleks and Cybermen: These iconic villains, the Daleks and Cybermen, were introduced in the early years of the show and have become central to the series’ mythology. Classic fans appreciate their original portrayals and evolving roles.
  5. The Special Effects: Classic Doctor Who is known for its low-budget special effects and set design. Fans often have a fondness for the imaginative yet sometimes cheesy visual effects used to bring alien worlds and creatures to life.
  6. The Doctor's Companions: Many classic companions, such as Sarah Jane Smith, Leela, and Romana, had unique roles and character arcs that significantly impacted the show’s dynamics. Classic fans know the intricacies of their contributions and relationships with the Doctor.
  7. The UNIT Family: The Unified Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT) was introduced to handle extraterrestrial threats on Earth. Classic fans recall the agency’s role in various storylines and its connections with characters like Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.
  8. Classic Story Arcs: Many fans cherish the intricate story arcs and serial storytelling of the classic series, where each story was often part of a larger narrative, spanning multiple episodes.
