Show audiences how Andrew Scott's character, Moriarty from Sherlock, is one of the ultimate British villians by editing together clips from the Sherlock show, which is available to stream on BritBox.

Who doesn't love a British baddie? In recent years there has been a pop culture push for the Brits and villains coming together. Whether it's Jaguar showing how it's Good to Be Bad or Prada putting on an entire fashion show with the most iconic TV villains, there is something intriguing, and seriously fabulous, about being an incredibly suave and sophisticated villain. BritBox wants to lean into this theme to promote Andrew Scott, who plays the incomparable villain James "Jim" Moriarty in TV's Sherlock series, which is now streaming on the platform, and they need an editor to weave together something really fun and fresh with clips from the show.
The goal here is to create a single, awesome :15 character-focused promotional video for Sherlock that features Andrew Scott in the role of Sherlock's archenemy, Jim Moriarty, to encourage North American audiences to stream the series on BritBox. Andrew Scott's star is bright right now - he's slaying in the role of Tom Ripley in the American show Ripley - and profile pieces are popping up in some of the top pop culture publishers like Vanity Fair, Vulture, and the New York Times. We want to capitalize on the moment to show off how Andrew Scott has always been a worthy villain, opposite Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock. Your video should feature Scott at his evil best, and should serve as a fun wink to all the British Baddies on TV, while still including Benedict Cumberbatch in a "supporting" role within the piece.
In terms of the editing style, you should put a lot of thought into how you can cut multiple different Moriarty moments together to create something that feels like it has a singular point of view, and that makes a memorable statement (literally, and figuratively). We'd expect to see some clever interplay between different soundbites and dialogue, as that will go a long way in communicating how incredibly fun it is to witness Scott's character, and show newer viewers why audiences have come to love him, despite his evil ways. In terms of tone, yes, we're talking crime and mystery, but you should also look for ways to incorporate a little of the signature lightness and wry humor that characterizes the show, and include a few humorous moments from the shows. You should also think about how you'll integrate motion, text, and typography into the clips but ensure they feel aligned with the tone of the show, and feel free to play with sound effects, text transitions, frames within frames, and maybe even work in stock footage or graphic effects if they feel fitting to the edit - without taking away from the show visuals themselves. In terms of the different aspect ratios, you should also consider what would be the most attention-grabbing or even humorous for the 9x16 should be among TikTok and Reels, while the 1x1 will most likely live on Facebook so think about how text or strong facial visuals will be engaging on that platform.
Critically, you must work within the Adobe Suite for this project, and for your pitch submission, we're looking for you to edit at least a :15 sample video to display how you would cut together the different clips dynamically and interestingly. We won't be able to provide assets for the initial pitch, so feel free to scour YouTube and any other sources you have for the footage you need to build your edit. BritBox will ultimately provide high-res footage if you're selected.
