Promote some serious summer binge-watching by editing together crime drama clips from some of the best crime movies and shows available on BritBox.
Some folks claim “the Brits do it better,” and honestly, they're right. British TV offers some of the greatest crime shows out there, and BritBox just so happens to supply the best British thrillers, for an adrenaline rush like no other platform. From smart detectives and unwilling-witnesses, to unreliable witnesses and a great lineup of evil criminals, BritBox crime dramas serve up chilling mind games and mind-blowing twists, underwritten by nail-biting suspense. This summer, BritBox is bringing viewers "Crime Watch," a thrilling collection of non-stop crime dramas, and we're looking for an editor who can work with existing clips from all the shows and cut together an energetic mashup video that can really get our pulses. This is all about murder, mayhem, mystery, and - most importantly - binge-watching.
The goal of this project is to create a :30 commercial edit that features scenes from crime shows and movies that you can watch on BritBox for North American audiences, and that ties everything together in a way that encourages new viewers and current subscribers to spend their summer binge-watching crime dramas. What sets BritBox apart in the realm of crime dramas and mysteries is not just the breadth of their selection, but the depth of it, with a mix of shows that respect the genre's traditions while also pushing boundaries through psychological complexity, innovative storytelling, and a look at the impacts of crime. While the gentler British murder mystery has become a staple of the detective genre, it’s the grittier, character-driven narratives that have dominated British television lately, and you can find both on BritBox. These are the shows that really get to the heart of crime and a character’s psyche, and we want to explore them all and bring them all together in a way that will entice everyone to binge along this Summer.
Cleverness is key with any mashup - it has to feel unexpected and surprising - and much of that comes from some kind of twist, so think about how you're going to set expectations, and then you're going to defy them by getting the audience to jump out of their seat. Pacing is important too, but your edit really needs to feel seamless, so think about trying to establish some consistency in the cuts through dialogue and grammar, lighting, sound, or music. We highly recommend you check out some of the previous work that BritBox has done in the in past and the list of shows you can include in the Background. We'd encourage you to think of ways to incorporate additional imagery, graphics, or text, like this previous video, that layers footage and includes graphics like a crime map to reel the audience in. If you are including VO or text, you may want to lean into why and how entertaining binge-watching these crime shows can be. You will also need to make sure you are not using the commercial music included in scenes, but you can include the dialogue and SFX from any of the shows or movies.
Critically, you must work within the Adobe Suite for this project, and for your pitch submission, we're looking for you to edit a :15-:30 sample video to display how you would cut together the different clips dynamically and interestingly. We won't be able to provide assets for the initial pitch, feel free to scour YouTube and any other sources you have for the footage you need to build your edit. BritBox will ultimately provide high-res footage if you're selected.

EXPOSURE: We expect content will be used on the platforms below, but if casting talent, be sure they review our required Talent Release before they're cast, as it is NOT limited to these platforms. By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a submission. Though most projects do move forward, we'll notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any submissions via the Project Forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and project team.

In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.
The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.
Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: Once Content has been submitted and the initial Production Phase completed, greenlit creators will enter into Revisions. Creators will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor's feedback. MUSIC: If you use music from a library for your content, you MUST use one of Tongal's three music providers: Jingle Punks, Universal Production Music and Epidemic Sound. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project, and will not require a Music Release Form. If you choose to use original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. Please ensure your composer reviews and signs this form BEFORE beginning their work.
STOCK FOOTAGE: Tongal has partnered with the stock footage library STORYBLOCKS, which can be used to source video clips, photography, and After Effects templates for your video submission to this project. Video or photo content from Storyblocks is available at no charge, solely for incorporation into submissions on this project, and will not require a separate Release Form. If identifiable people or intellectual property appears in a video clip or photo, you may only utilize assets that are clearly marked “Model released: Yes” or “Property release: Yes” on the clip description pages. You may not use any audio.
If you intend to use Storyblocks, inform your Tongal producer, and an account will be created for you to access the library. Once assets are approved for delivery, you must provide a complete list of all Storyblocks content that you used via our template HERE.
ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. You are responsible for any costs associated with the hard drive and shipping. Tongal also reserves the right to request all raw files associated with the project.
