Best Fiends Instagram Stories Project
Pitch
10/30/18 - 11/19/18

Partnering with Seriously, we are looking for a social savvy creator to create content for the Best Fiends Instagram Stories channel.

Welcome to the world of the Best Fiends – mythical, mischievous little creatures who, in a desperate race against slime, must build a courageous team of friends to help take down the army of Slugs that has been rampaging across the land. If you haven’t played the mobile game Best Fiends yet, you definitely should – it’s a stunning and addictive blend of puzzles and adventures with RPG-style character building, and it’s got a huge fan-base, with millions of players around the world.

Working with the Best Fiends team at Seriously, we’re looking for a social media-focused creator to grab the slug by the tail and own this opportunity to make Best Fiends content in a pilot program spanning 3 months. You will design and create Stories that will be featured on the Best Fiends Instagram Story feed featuring an audience of half a million followers! Should the 3-month pilot be successful there is the possibility of continuation.

Your pitch will need to accommodate a minimum of 3 stories per week over the 3 month pilot period. These Stories can be a combination of videos and still imagery and should include around 3 – 5 Story chapters / segments.

Please outline how you will approach the overall creation of these stories; what the Instagram stories will look like (animated, live action, or combo of the two) and the style of voice and materials you will use (like incorporation of stickers and text). For some inspiration, check out the Best Fiends Snapchat Campaign that was marketed to a slightly younger audience, though you're Instagram Stories should appeal to the 25-45 year old crowd.

There is also the possibility for access to Best Fiends digital assets as well as the merchandise found on the Best Fiends shop for you to create your Instagram Stories, so let us know what you might want access to.

You will also need to let us know how much time you’ll need to create your content.

If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been waiting for, please read below for more details.

The goal of this project is to create 3 months worth of programmed Best Fiends Story content that will engage a dedicated and enthusiastic audience.

Below are five helpful tips to consider as you pitch us your plan for awesome Best Fiends Instagram Stories.

Be Playful about Play: Curiosity is a natural human emotion, and if you keep followers guessing, you’ll keep them watching. People want to be stimulated, challenged, and delighted in Instagram Stories.

Surprise and delight: Catch your viewers off-guard with an initial Story frame that is unexpected or out of place. Strange, counterintuitive pictures are proven to make an impact for Instagram Stories, particularly with video.

Make it relatable: Show the audience situations they can relate to. This is proven to help viewers emotionally connect with your post and mirror the reactions of the characters.

Make it interactive: A single image can go a long way with a “tap to reveal.” Give viewers a chance to guess the content of a photo before you show the full image by revealing more of an image as viewers tap through frames. As Instagram notes, “If you tap and something happens, it's better than just watching a video - this is a mobile, we like to interact with it."

Be fast: Among Stories that contained multiple scenes, on average, scenes from top-performing Stories are shorter than 1 minute. Demanding more than a minute of a followers' time is rude and excessive no matter how cool your rich friend's boat is.

--Deliverables:

  • 3 Instagram Stories per week over a 3 month period with built in time for notes and revision.
  • Each of 3 deliveries will contain one full month of stories delivered the month prior to launch.
  • Total of 36 Instagram Stories.
  • Each story should contain 3-5 story chapters each made up of a mix of video and still imagery.

--Target Audience:

  • Current Best Fiends players, women and men, who are 25-45.

--Tone:  Think “Minions” or “The Simpsons” – funny yet subversive and playful.

This Project will be worth a total $15,000 and consists of 5 Phases: A Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase, Revisions Phase, and Assets Delivery. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH

Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.

  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a Treatment template, which you can find here.

  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatic, etc. are welcome.

Seriously will determine whether to move forward with a Creator based on the Pitch, and ultimately if that Creator will be selected to produce the Instagram Story campaign.

If a most compelling Pitch is selected then, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the pitch winner will receive $3000 to help create the Stories.  Please note the payment of the Pitch award is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, completing Sponsor notes, providing the necessary release forms, and providing all assets required by the sponsor the Pitch winner will receive a final payment of $12,000. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION – The # of Pitch Winners from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:

  • STORYBOARD - This project requires Storyboard Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your storyboard and ask you to submit a new version of the storyboard.

No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase before you have received final approval, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense).

For your convenience we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a Treatment, Production Budget, Storyboards, Shot List, Call Sheet, and a Music Cue Sheet.  They can all be accessed here.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner will create 36 Instagram stories each with 3-5 segments no longer than 15 seconds per segment.

--Video Phase Payout: Upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, completing Sponsor notes, providing the necessary release forms, and providing all assets required by the sponsor the Pitch winner will receive a final payment of $12,000.

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a more customized music solution for your project are invited to connect with our partner Score A Score. Email a brief description of your project (timing, creative, budget, etc.), along with any specific music direction and/or references to their creative team at music@scoreascore.com and include “Tongal Project - Your Name” in the subject line.  Their creative team will be in touch within a few minutes to discuss the simple process and options with you. Please note that you will be responsible for the fees associated with using Score A Score.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your Video paperwork.

PHASE 4: REVISIONS – Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.

PHASE 5: ASSETS DELIVERY - You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. In addition, to the project files you are also required to provide all raw footage on a hard drive. You will be responsible for the costs associated the hard drive (if necessary) and shipping.
