We’re looking for a talented writer to help us develop five up-to-:90 dialogue-free scripts for a suite of CGI animated LEGO Star Wars Halloween videos.

Halloween is the one day of the year where it's not only acceptable, but highly encouraged, for you to dress up as someone else. Whether it's a Wookiee dressing up as an Ewok or Rey dressing up as Captain Phasma, there's a lot of fun to be had in a galaxy far, far away.

Working with Tongal, The LEGO Group is looking to find a talented writer to develop five up-to-:90 dialogue-free scripts for a suite of CGI animated LEGO Star Wars Halloween videos. Tongal will provide the concepts as well as the LEGO sets you'll need to feature in each script. Since we understand many of you may not have written short-form animation scripts in the past, in the Writer's Pitch Phase, we're leveling the playing field and asking to see a sample script based on the following concept:

R2D2 wants to scare C-3PO for Halloween. However, he's having trouble finding the right parts for his costume. As we follow him around searching for parts, C-3PO has a surprise for him as well...

Check out more information in the Background / Additional Details. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

EXPOSURE:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Fans of Star Wars and fans of LEGO, including kids, as well as adult fans of LEGO

TONE: Humorous, fun, full of Halloween spirit but not scary

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Please keep your writing sample in line with the standard LEGO® tone of voice, branding, etc.
  • DO NOT SAY LEGOS OR LEGO BLOCKS. The word “LEGO” should be used as an adjective (i.e. LEGO bricks, LEGO sets).
  • Content needs to be family friendly.
  • DO NOT include other LEGO product lines.
  • You MUST follow the Star Wars timeline. For example, Jyn Erso and Rey cannot exist at the same time.

Check out the LEGO Star Wars Celebrate the Season Series we produced last year.  We're looking to create 5 shorts similar in tone to those animated videos but for Halloween instead of the holidays.

As a helpful example of what we're trying to accomplish, for that series we took the concept below and turned it into this script, which led to this video.

The Child is trying to catch snowflakes on his tongue. But he can’t seem to catch any. He keeps
missing them. He decides to use the Force to help. He gathers a lot of snowflakes into a large
ball of snow. He opens his mouth to eat it, but it’s too big and hits him in the face!

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing your sample script.

  • SAMPLE SCRIPT (REQUIRED): Write a sample animation script for a :90 CGI animated video based on the sample concept in the Objectives section. The script should not include any dialogue.

  • PREVIOUS WORK (Optional): Links to 3-5 individual videos or scripts with a strong emphasis on entertainment content (animation is also a plus!). Put your most relevant samples first, and please specify your role. You should submit at least one writing sample that is fully credited by the individual who is pitching.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.
