Capture footage at the Roku’s Ads Manager public launch event in New York City on September 18th, and quickly deliver a hard drive to the Roku team to help them celebrate the launch of this new ad service offering.
To kickoff the launch of a new offering for marketers, Roku Ads Manager will be hosting a kickoff event at the Classic Car Club Manhattan in New York City on Wednesday, September 18th from 1-4pm, where there will be a number of live presentations. Roku is looking for an agile, local film crew that can capture both video and audio for a particular series of panels and fireside chats at this event. After the event, all of the raw assets will need to be handed off to Roku and their editing team, so no post-production will be needed here.
All of these presentations that Roku wants to capture will take place on the same day, and at the same location, and they will run back to back over the course of 3-4 hours. We'll need each event to be covered with a few different camera angles, so you'll need a two camera set-up. You'll only be responsible for capturing the speakers and presenters themselves, and you should avoid including any of the crowds as much as possible. Around the events, you should plan to capture some B-roll of the event venue (without featuring the public), as well as some footage of the speakers interacting with people outside of the main presentation.
You may need to hang filming notices to act as a crowd releases, and these will be provided by Roku, but you won't need to obtain individual releases from the panel participants. Although you're not responsible for any post-production, you should know that the content will likely be used for social assets later on, and therefore should be captured so that it can be utilized in both 16x9 and 9x16 formats. You could achieve this through maintaining center framing, and/or even having dedicated cameras for each aspect ratio. For audio durign presentations, Roku can patch you into the sound board provided by their AV vendor. Immediately following the event, you'll need to deliver the assets to our post team. While a digital delivery is preferred, we recognize that the file size may be too large for that to be practical. In the case of shipping a hard-drive, we'd need to receive that as soon as possible, and no later than the Friday morning following the event.
For your pitch, you should focus on your general approach to physical production, your proposed camera setup(s) to capture multiple angles (i.e. wide, close-up/follow, and audience view), your audio capture preferences (i.e. patching into the sound board or providing your own mics), and whatever team you'd put together to make it all happen.
We're expecting production to be run by a more local team, so no additional travel budget will be provided. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

The Sponsor has decided not to move forward with a Pitch on this project. Though most Projects do move forward with a selected Pitch, we will always notify you in the event the Sponsor has decided not to move forward. Please note that regardless of the results, all submissions are reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the Project Team. We sincerely appreciate your time and effort on this project.
In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.
The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.
Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.
PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to the commencement of actual production, creators MUST receive final approval from the Sponsor on the elements below. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until an element is approved.
If you begin production before you have received final approval, you may need to reshoot or reanimate at your own expense.
For convenience, we've provided some helpful templates that you can consider using for pre-production materials, and they can all be accessed here.
