It might be nice, if in the future, Tongal could incorporate something for video amateurs who don't have the resources to compete with the production companies and professionals. The prize pool would be less and then feedback would be given on how they could improve. Maybe there are sites like that out there somewhere, I don't know. There would need to be brands out there who are interested in developing and helping people in the arts as opposed to just getting cheap advertising. Just a thought...

Tony, you're on the right track...we've been kicking this idea around for a while, but the question is where do you draw the line? Is it an under 18 competition? For film students only? What kind of paramaters could you put on it to ensure that everyone is on an even playing field?

@Karan Bhatia
Like a "community awards" kind of thing? That's a neat idea.

Feedback is huge and we're working toward a more formalized system. How can you learn from a mistake if you don't even know you've made one? The ultimate goal is making sure that everyone (even those who didn't place) take something positive away from the experience and grow creatively.

You could give filmmakers "levels". As people win more contests they would receive higher rankings. You could implement the current point system into every x points= 1 level. Then limit what levels can apply to the contest.

We could also do the reverse by allowing only those who have achieved certain point thresholds to participate in special projects. The more you participate and the better you do, the more projects/work/opportunities you "unlock."

I think that might discourage amateurs rather than encourage them to participate & prohibit them from getting the experience they need to improve.

I think that if you submit an idea and win that phase, but loose the pitch phase. And then someone else wins the contest based off of your idea, you should get a much bigger piece of the pie. After all, without the idea, there is no commercial. Anyone else agree?

The way it is set up now is that if someone wins $10,000 off of your idea, all you will get is an additional $500. Seems a bit off balance. That idea, that spark of creativity, that undefinable inspiration should get rewarded with at-least $1000. just my opinion.
