The summer movie season seems to start earlier and earlier each year, but August surely marks the end of it (right???). Out of all the movies you saw this summer, either in the theater or at home, which was your favorite? Was it a film that blew your mind with special effects, or something that kept you guessing with an inventive plot, or a movie that made you LOL or CIP (Cry In Public)? Or are you still holding out for a film whose release is still to come before the season is over?

Dunkirk was probably the best movie of the Summer. Spiderman: Homecoming was probably the truest version of the franchise to date, and was fun, but still Meh-ish. A lot of the movies this summer were just "Meh." Most of the movies today lack a truly great villain, and it is the antagonist that drives the conflict in most stories and without a proper antagonist there's no drama, or conflict. People (or giant robots) fighting isn't conflict. One of the best things I've seen all year long was this year's "Fargo" series, which had one of the best villains in a long time with the scheming "V.M Varga," played by the great David Thewlis.

True, these days TV is often much more compelling! Speaking of Thewlis, between Fargo and Wonder Woman, he has had quite a summer.
