How does the rating system work? I see that some submissions in the same project get a different number of votes. For ex. a submission may get 3 votes and another in the same project gets 2. I thought at first the rating was an average of stars divided by number of votes, but that is not the case. Can someone please clarify?

Green thumbs up? Red thumbs down? What does it all mean? #MoreMysteriousThanTheHatchFromLost

Hi Tina, thanks for posting to our forum! Ratings are done by a mix of the Sponsor and Tongal team members and each idea always receives a minimum threshold of votes. Keep in mind that ratings help organize the Ideas, but do not necessarily determine the final winners. We're currently revising the way that scores are displayed on our website (and working on some other exciting features!), so we welcome any feedback you may have. You're correct that the scores are calculated by the total number of stars divided by total number of votes, however, it appears there was a bug in your Dashboard which prevented a few of your scores from displaying properly. Our tech team has fixed the bug, so everything should display properly now! Let us know if we can help with anything else.

Thanks Madeleine! The averages still don't seem to add up on my dashboard - but maybe you are just referring to number of stars. For ex. a submission with 5 stars & 3 stars has a rating of 3.67. Should that not be 4? Or are ratings irrelevant to stars?

Hi Tina, I checked in with our tech team and it looks like those scores were calculated right originally, but were displaying the incorrect vote counts. For example, the one you mention had one 5-star rating and two 3-star ratings, making an average of 3.67 stars. The ones that were miscalculated are now fixed though. Hope this helps!

Thanks! I don't dispute the calculations. I was just trying to understand them. Tell the tech team they can put the advanced stats back now, so Kyle won't be mad at me.

Also there are a few that say submitted but have no rating, while others in the same project are rated.

I'd like to jump in and ask if there's a way to get further feedback? I'm super new here and have won nothin, but basically all of my projects have gotten an average of 3 stars (Is that out of 4 or 5??). How can I make them better?? What's there not to like? What's there to like? I'm used to work with high standars, and I really want to work on a few Tongal projects, but so far it feels like I'm throwing darts in the dark. Thank you!

Well, I know how it used to work. The ranking system is out of 5 stars total. Your final score is the average you were given by everyone who had a vote on the project. After everyone judges the idea individually, the highest rated ideas move into the finalist phase (Top 5% or so) and then they come together to debate who the winners will be. You might have a higher rated idea lose but win with something that barely made it to the finalist judging. Since they have 400+ ideas on most projects, there's no way for them to be giving detailed feedback on every idea. If your idea is good enough to be a "Finalist" they'll send you an email letting you know you were a finalist and scored higher than 95% of other submissions. Otherwise, your idea was somewhere in the bottom 95%.

Hi Adrian, thanks for posting to our forum and welcome to our creative community! We recommend checking out our Tongal 101 pages: https://tongal.com/community/tutorials/ . There, you can find some helpful tutorials on how to improve and work on your submissions. We also have a few blog posts that you may find interesting: Idea Ratings ( https://tongal.com/blog/articles/idea-rating ); The Anatomy of a Brief ( https://tongal.com/blog/articles/anatomy-of-the-tongal-project-brief ). Sometimes, it’s just a matter of reading through the Brief one more time to make sure you’ve hit on all the key points in the creative ask, such as genre, exhibition format, tagline, and target market. Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide individual feedback on submissions, but it sounds like you’re definitely on the right track and these resources should help you sharpen your skills. - Maddie + Team Tongal
