Hey everyone, I've submitted a few hundred times and have never won a Tongal contest and was just wondering what the process is like when you win a Tongal? All my submissions go from Active to Accepted right before they announce the winners. Is there a category that shows up when you win in your Past Submissions list? I'm guessing the winners don't say Accepted but say something like Winner. Does it update in your list before they are announced to that status? Also do you usually get an e-mail congratulating you on it ahead of time or at the time of announcement? I've always been curious about how all that works. So exciting, and congrats to all the past winners out there. :)

Hey there! When you win, the "accepted" will change to the amount you won...it might read $250 (in green) on the "my submissions" page. It doesn't update until winners are announced. The Congratulations email usually comes a few seconds after winners are announced, or perhaps exactly the same time. I think figuring Tongal out generally takes a while. My first year on Tongal, I was TERRIBLE. I could never quite figure out how to fit my ideas into a 140-character space. But with time I began to see how to cut my ideas down to the bare minimum. Editing is key. Winning that first contest is very exciting...I'm sure it'll happen for you soon. Then, once that first win is out of the way, you'll be on your way.

When you win on Tongal Ervin Anderson puts you on his "List" and then several months later you mysteriously disappear so he can stay atop the Leaderboard... The winner/finalist emails go out at the same time that the project winners are announced on the website, so I usually see it pop up on my email before I see it on Tongal. It will also let you know in the notifications at the top in the bell next to your name that "Winners have announced" and then underneath it says "Congratulations, your idea won $250" If your idea is turned into a commercial, and royalties are involved, you'll get the notification for that after the video phase ends to let you know how much in royalties you're getting for the project. The most important thing is to actually win in the first place, which can mean writing hundreds of losing ideas in a row before you finally come up with something that's exactly what the brand is looking for.

So, there's no hold up in having the winners accept the win? I always wondered if that's why there are delays - that they are trying to reach the winners for confirmation or something. I suppose once I win one, I won't be asking any questions about winning ;-)

No, the only delay is if you haven't filled out the paperwork for tax purposes yet. Sometimes on the Story phases when you're submitting an actual person to appear in the project they'll reach out to you ahead of time looking for more information, but even then the brand still hasn't actually decided to pick your story as the winner. The same time they post the winners on the website is when you get an email letting you know your submission was selected as a winner. Those get sent out at the same time as the Finalist emails letting you know you lost (But were in the final round of judging) The delays are always just the brand trying to figure out what submissions to select.
