Region Locked Concepts?

Just a quick idea / question. Is there a reason for limiting the concept phase? It might be worth while opening all concept phases up to international members (as it makes no difference in the end as to where the initial idea comes from) The pitch and video phase can remain only to the US, etc for obvious reason (Be it product related, etc). But at least this way the client receives more concepts to choose from internationally and more members have an opportunity to be involved.

The GMC project was a technical issue on their end, so it's open to everyone now. In some situations though, like the Twilight project from last year, they specifically asked for female writers and directors. That was the only project in recent memory where the concepts and scripts had to be created by a female. There are international concepts that ask for real people from other countries, so unless you've got friends in the area you're unlikely to be able to write a concept for it, but they're still typically open to everyone to submit ideas on behalf of people from that region.

Thank you for the response. I did notice that the GMC project was changed, as this was actually what triggered my question. I also noted that some projects (especially the "day in the life of" type stories) would need the writer to be in a certain region - which is totally understandable :) Thanks again!

Projects have character limits that are listed next to the Concept line on the submission form. If you look at the Van Heusen Flex project, you have to submit your concept in 250 characters or less. It will let you continue writing beyond 250 characters, but turn red to let you know you're over (And how much you need to cut down) They do this so you can finish your thought and then figure out what to cut to make it hit the character limit. It would take forever if the Brand had to read through 1000 ideas that were all a couple pages long. So, you're usually stuck with 140 to 500 characters to get the point of your idea across. The idea phase is supposed to be the Spark of Inspiration for production companies to then flesh out the idea with a longer form concept/script.
