My name is Kevin Rosales and I’m a filmmaker from Guatemala currently living in Mexico City. I studied graphic design in college only because I wanted to learn photography, which was a 4th semester class. What I didn’t know was that this graphic design class would lead me to find my dream career. At the end of the 2nd semester, I quit my job at a call center and began working at a design studio that, at the time, was doing small video productions. It was there that my love for filmmaking began.
Three years later (2015), after doing a lot of graphic design, motion graphics, editing, color grading, and photography (weddings and events mostly), I took my chance and made my first personal video (Film Portrait ft. Lulú). After that, I dedicated myself fully to filmmaking.
That same year, I registered myself in every filmmaking social network I could find because I wanted to be involved in the film community. At the time, I didn’t know anything about pitching or directing, I just wanted to be involved.

November 6th, 2017: The Day I Made It
An email from one of the social networks I had registered for a few years back came through. It was about a project to be made in Guatemala and Uruguay. The producer was looking for someone in any of those cities to work with an influencer and direct a small production. They needed a one-page pitch, so I stayed up all night and put all my effort and knowledge into that one single page. A few days later, I was on a call with the producer and client to talk about travel and production details. Two months later I was delivering the content.
Not only was this opportunity my first approach to international production processes, but it gave me the confidence to go on and pursue a career in directing. Today, I’m working on digital content for a big production company here in Mexico City, while also keeping my eye on online pitches and other new opportunities.
