Big Idea

Hey Tongal, put on your SNL-opening-sketch-writer hats and fire up your meme generators because we have a real-time project for you!

Viacom wants to see how you can take one of the real-time moments below or a pop culture, newsworthy current event of your own and blow it up into something that catches fire on the internet.

Some classic examples for inspiration include: This Kid who is “apparently” flying around newsfeeds today. Or these gems from the past, like the Miley Twerk parody videos that popped up the morning after the MTV VMA’s, the Bed Intruder Song that went viral after the news report broke, and when the lights went out at the Super Bowl and Oreo instantly tweeted “You can still dunk in the dark.”

First, click through these TWO cultural moments below and imagine they happened yesterday. What kind of funny videos would you make immediately after? What content could you create around these real-time moments that make Dr Pepper part of the conversation and that Viacom can activate across their various platforms to capture part of the "buzz"? It's a bit of a challenge, but be sure to cleverly integrate the Dr Pepper brand or product and their "One of a Kind" campaign messaging into your video Idea in a creative way. Here's one final twist: you can also select your own moment and go bananas!

#1: College Football Moment sponsored by Dr Pepper -- Brooks' Odd Football Throw 2013

#2: Viacom Moment - Teen Wolf Finale

Moment to react to: The Twittersphere was all a buzz in Teen Wolf's Season 3 finale when Kate Argent was revealed to be aliiiiive! And a #werejaguar.

In a series of flashbacks, it's revealed that a wolf scratch can cause someone to 'turn' if the nails go deep enough. Kate Argent, whose throat was torn out by wolf claws, is shown to be alive and is a supernatural being called “La Loba.” Out of the smoke she emerges, her face all blue, her lips turn black, she grows fangs, and her eyes take on a greenish hue. (Backstory: Kate was originally a member of a group of Werewolf Hunters. Viewers thought she was killed by an Alpha Werewolf at the end of Season 1, but in the finale of Season 3 dum dum dummmm...she returns!)

#3:  Select Your Own Real-Time Pop Culture Moment

The goal of this project is to submit your Idea for a super-shareable, real-time video based on one of the real-time moments outlined below or select a current pop culture phenomenon of your own! Your video Idea should cleverly integrate Dr Pepper and their "One of a Kind" campaign messaging in a creative way across all three Video Ideas.

#1: College Football Moment sponsored by Dr Pepper -- Brooks' Odd Football Throw 2013

#2: Viacom Moment - Teen Wolf Finale (see what they're saying on Twitter #werejaguar #teenwolf)

#3:  Select Your Own Real-Time Pop Culture Moment

(The Sponsor wants to see a variety of funny executions based on #1 & #2 but is open to your #3's)

--Target Audience:  Standout Millennials (ages 18 – 24)

  • Who make choices that reflect their own originality
  • Who have an optimistic yet realistic view of the future
  • Who are independent spirits with a strong sense of self
  • Who take pride in who they are
  • Who are bicultural/bilingual, and have a strong cultural connection

--Key Marketing Message: Creative needs to ladder up to:

  • Dr Pepper - /1 Platform

One of a Kind: Helping everyday people on the path to becoming extraordinary

  • Brand Mission Statement:

Dr Pepper isn’t like every other soda. It’s been distinctly unique since day one, and attracted likeminded individuals ever since. Individuals who live by their own rules, define their own versions of success, who are driven to live their most authentic life.

These are the people that embrace their one of a kindness and so we think it’s only right to celebrate them.

Who knows where it can lead....

--Executional Mandatories:  You must find a way to creatively integrate Dr Pepper and/or "One of a Kind" into your Video Idea.

--Tone:  Funny, shareable, topical, engaging, unique.

--Exposure:   Intended for use on Viacom channels.

This Project will be worth a total of $2,500 and consists of a Big Idea Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: BIG IDEA  – Tell us your Big Idea for a fun real-time Video (based on Brooks' Odd Football Throw, The Teen Wolf Finale, or select a pop culture moment of your own) and be sure to ladder up to Dr Pepper "One of a Kind" in 500 characters or less.  Remember, an Idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video.  As always, Big Ideas should be clever and engaging.  The winning Big Idea creators will receive $500 each.

Please SELECT ONE of the real-time moments listed in the Background section or pick one current Pop Culture Moment of your own that is newsworthy right now(!) from the dropdown menu on the submissions form.
