If you know anything about basketball, you know about Spalding. For over 130 years, their name has meant unparalleled quality and cutting edge innovation. Now it’s going to mean something else, too. Freaking awesome basketball shoes.

That’s right - Spalding’s unleashing a new line of high performance shoes for young b ball players and they want your help to market it. These revolutionary new shoes come loaded with D3O technology – a responsive cushioning that not only absorbs shock but also transfers impact energy back to the player on take off. Jump to the assets tab right now to see some more shots of these amazing shoes and get inspired.

Are you back? Great, cause this is your chance to design a whole new marketing campaign from the ground up. Tell us how you think Spalding should position these incredible new shoes. Help Spalding leverage what they’re known for (innovation, quality, reliability) and create a new brand persona to appeal to young basketball players.

The goal of this project is to design a Positioning Statement (in 500 characters or less) for how Spalding should market these cutting edge athletic shoes to young basketball players. Help Spalding create a new brand persona to be relevant to teen athletes.

--Key Marketing Messages:

  • You have to get these awesome new shoes.
  • Spalding’s new line of basketball shoes feature state of the art D3O technology.

--Target Audience: Teen basketball players.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • Don’t be irreverent. That’s Nike’s shtick. Spalding is earnest and passionate. Find a way to be cool and relevant to young kids but don’t belie that heritage.

This Project will be worth a total of $5,000 and consists of one Phase: a Positioning Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: POSITIONING  – Tell us your Positioning for Spalding in 500 characters or less. Remember, a Positioning Statement is how advertisers decide they’ll market a product to consumers. Spalding is NOT looking for just for a single one-off commercial they are looking for how you would define the target consumer’s perception of their product and that big idea they could potentially build an entire campaign around.
