HP is looking for one filmmaker to create a hilarious set of shareable Videos featuring their HP Instant Ink ink replacement service.

Ink is so expensive. It’s ridiculous how expensive it is. So let’s let everyone know that HP understands and is doing something about it! HP Instant Ink is the affordable and convenient solution to running out of expensive ink. You can save up to 50% on ink and the ink comes delivered to your door before you even run out. And your pockets? They aren’t complaining either.

Have fun with it! Ink costs are ridiculous, so maybe your Video is too. Think about how Dollar Shave Club made people laugh and realize they were over-spending on razors. HP wants a video that will wake up people to the brilliant solution of HP Instant Ink.

The goal of this project is for one filmmaker to create a 30-second, 15-second, and 6-second Vine that humorously communicates the pain point of the high cost of ink and presents HP Instant Ink ink replacement service as the affordable solution.  Focus on the cost-savings/affordability & convenience benefits of HP Instant Ink.

IN YOUR PITCH:

-These Videos will be used in BOTH the US and Europe/Middle East/Africa, so if your Video uses on-screen dialogue, we will also need one without. Please make sure your Pitch can cater to both versions.  The talent should also look multi-cultural and the talent styling and setting should also be as well.

-Please specify in your Pitch how you will incorporate an offer of three months of free ink  for the US-only promotion. This is a temporary promotion, so the creative needs to work with and without the offer.

NOTE: The 30, 15, and 6-second Videos are all due at the close of the Video Phase.  Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

--Key Marketing Messages:

  • Affordable: HP Instant Ink makes it easy/convenient and affordable to print in full color or B&W for one low monthly rate. Plans start at just $2.99/mo.
  • Easy: Buy an eligible HP Instant Ink printer, Sign up once and you’re covered  - your printer orders ink and it’s delivered to your home/small business before you run out.
  • Smart: A once painful process made 100% hassle-free – Instant Ink just makes sense. Not only is it affordable, it’s also delivered before you run out.

--Target Audience:

  • Must resonate with Males & Females 35-54 (core HP Printer customer home/home office)
  • However, we would like to aspire to also reach Women/Men 25-34 without alienating the 35-54 target.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • Video must feature an Envy 5660 printer, or for micro-business settings, feature the OJ Pro 8620, and Instant Ink Welcome Kit.
  • Printers must be in consumer, home-office,  or micro-biz setting (1-9 employees)  NOT large corporate office.
  • If there are actors in the video, they should be in the middle of printing something that families, artists, and micro business owners would love to print—e.g. working on a creative project, new home they’re trying to sell (i.e. real estate agent).
  • We will provide an End Card to the pitch winner. Please see below about the languuage that will be included on the card and the VO that you will need to provide:

(Do not include any “mouse click” action on URL, the only call to action should be in the VO)

--Tone:

  • Funny, irreverent, ridiculous. Think: Dollar Shave Club Video. It’s ridiculous, funny, intriguing, and makes viewers immediately love the brand and think: this is the answer to my problems. But it isn’t vulgar or offensive. Peruse BuzzFeed and YouTube Videos to get a feel for the pervasive meme-culture humor.
  • Bold, committed, genuine, and human. Not self-congratulatory.

--Exposure: HP paid and owned social and digital platforms in US and Europe/Middle East/Africa.

This Project will be worth a total of $25,000 and consists of 2 Phases: a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. PLEASE NOTE THE WINNING FILMMAKER WILL NEED TO SUBMIT FULL STORYBOARDS OF ALL VERSIONS BEFORE PRODUCTION BEGINS. THEY ARE OPTIONAL IN THE PITCH PHASE BUT MANDATORY IN THE VIDEO PHASE.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The 1 most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $15,000 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $10,000. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: VIDEO – The 1 winner from the Pitch Phase will each create 30-second, 15-second, and 6-second Video based upon their winning Pitch. Note: If your Videos contain on-screen dialogue, you will need to create versions without on-screen dialogue so they can work in other countries. Please also note, you will also have to turn in storyboards to be approved BEFORE production begins. There is a three-month free-ink promotion that the brand would like to see integrated into the storyboards as well.

NOTE: The 30, 15, and 6-second Videos are all due at the close of the Video Phase.  Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $10,000.

--Music: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audioblocks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a custom music solution for your project are invited to connect with SCORE A SCORE.  They specialize in the creation of custom music, on-demand.

Their business model is based on a "name your price" system, so you can tell them what your budget is, and they will work with you to create a deal configuration that will work within the discussed parameters. Check out the FAQ for more information and how to contact SCORE A SCORE.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won.
