Allstate wants the Tongal community to produce two (2) 60-90 second documentary-style Videos that spotlight two Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® student-athletes who contribute to their communities and serve others off the field.

Every year, Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) recognize the enormous accomplishments of 22 student-athletes who are committed to making a difference in their communities and the lives of others while excelling on the football field. This 24-year-old award is one of the most prestigious and elite off-the-field honors in college football and celebrates students who dedicate their free time to improving the lives of those around them through local charitable organizations, service groups, or community service. Beyond their commitments to service and their college team on the field, the students must also maintain good grades to qualify for the Allstate AFCA award.

From mentoring at-risk youth to founding scholarships to raising funds for cancer research, these 22 student-athletes represent their teams, colleges and universities as the Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams®. This year, a record-breaking 197 student-athletes were nominated for the award and inclusion on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams® by their colleges and universities among Divisions I, II, III and NAIA.

Now Allstate is turning to the Tongal community to create two Videos that feature two Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams® award recipients. Each featured recipient will likely be thrown a “surprise” award event that will be attended by their friends, families and coaches.  It will be your job to really dig in deep at the event to capture the story behind the award – not only the player’s reaction to that epic surprise moment, but also his personal story of hard work, volunteerism, and success on and off the field through interviews with him and the people in his life. The goal is to paint a real and humanistic portrait of each student-athlete to inspire other college students, sports fans, and then general public. The focus should be on the player and the story, with Allstate appearing as a support point rather than the headline.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • One filmmaking team will create both Videos – each video will feature one (1) player. The videos should not reference each other – or the other player – but serve as standalone Videos.
  • The filmmaking team will need to travel to the selected student-athletes’ universities to interview them.
  • The winning filmmaking team will also have access to existing content (a photo with a quote or a short audio/visual) featuring a representative from the AFCA to be used in the Videos to help introduce the Allstate AFCA GWT.
  • Specific travel dates are required; see the Objectives section for more details
  • Endcard and CTA should drive to ESPN.com/Allstate to learn more about the other members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®
  • Allstate is a sponsor of the NCAA, University of Georgia, and the AFCA.

The goal of this project is for one filmmaking team to create two (2) 60-90 second Videos. Each video will highlight one member of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® by sharing their stories and their commitment to volunteerism.  Each featured recipient will likely be thrown a “surprise” award event that will be attended by their friends, families and coaches.  Allstate’s priority is to cover the player’s story behind the award – not to cover the event. It will be your job to not only capture that epic surprise moment, but to also really dig in deep to tell the story of the player by  getting interviews with the athlete and other attendees who can speak to who they are and their service off the field, and to humanize each student-athlete’s story to a broad audience. The focus should be on the player and the story, with Allstate appearing as a support point rather than the headline.

These Videos will require travel to the selected student-athletes’ universities during specific dates, listed below. The Videos will need to focus on the student-athletes’ biographies and volunteerism, NOT on their on-the-field performance or the surprise award event. Allstate wants you to tell the stories of who these students are, what brought them to volunteerism in the first place, and what drives them each day to keep giving back and prioritizing others over themselves.

The Videos need to reference the program in totality (Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®) and that this player featured is just one (1) of the twenty-two (22) athletes selected to the team He is an example of the entire team.

--Key Marketing Messages:

  • Overarching Goal: “Humanize the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® program through compelling player stories.”

  • This award is considered to be one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college football.
  • Allstate and the AFCA have partnered to help shine a light on stories of good happening off the field by recognizing a select group of college football players who are actively involved with a charitable organization.
  • 197 players from across the country were announced as nominees, a new record in the award’s 24-year history; but only 22 players made the team

--Target Audience: College students and alumni, current and former college athletes, college football fans, and the broader public.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • The team should always be referred to as the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.

  • Attend pre-production calls with Allstate
  • Include provided existing content in both Videos (Allstate will confirm if the content is a must-have in the video or solely for your consideration and to provide background context)

  • The 22 award recipients there are also eligible to receive one of two Team Captain’s awards that are voted on by the public. These videos should NOT encourage or attempt to drive Team Captain voting for the featured athletes BUT
  • The Videos need to reference the program in totality (Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®) and that this player featured is just one (1) of the twenty-two (22) athletes selected to the team He is an example of the entire team.
