Create an engaging video that lets everyone know a Yankee Candle is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day!
Your mom’s always been your number one fan. She loves everything you do, including those little DIY trinkets you kept gifting her when you were little. But you’re an adult now and macaroni picture frames just aren’t going to cut it anymore. Seriously - her friends are starting to talk about you.
This Mother’s Day, get her something she actually wants, like a Yankee Candle. It’s the perfect gift for moms! Yankee Candles come in over 150 scents so you’re guaranteed to find one (or dozens) your mom will love. Maybe she’ll even display it on at that coffee table you tried to build her last year.
Yankee Candle wants your Ideas for emotional and engaging Videos to show Mother’s Day shoppers that candles are the perfect gift for Mom. **This project’s going to move fast, so pay special attention to the timeline and check the Objectives tab for more details.**
The goal of this project is to create an engaging and shareable 30-60 second video with a 15 second cutdown that positions Yankee Candle as the perfect gift for Mother’s Day!
Your video is going to be promoted to over 1.3 million fans on Yankee Candle’s Facebook page, so your Call-To-Action should inspire viewers to:
Your video should create an emotional connection with the viewer – primarily we’d like the video to evoke warm sentiments, with a fun twist to keep the viewers engaged. However, your video should consider the Yankee Candle persona (passionate, genuine, caring, particular, creative) and brand values (Celebrating scent, collecting memories, inspiring moments).
Think about how you can hook viewers in the first 5 seconds, then keep their interest all the way through to the end of your video.
Here are the top-selling Yankee Candles below. Please feature at least one, if not more, in your video:

This Project will be worth a total of $22,500 and consists of three Phases: an Idea Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: IDEA – Tell us your Idea for Yankee Candle Mother’s Day Video in 140 characters or less. Remember, an Idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video. As always, Ideas should be clever and engaging. The winning Idea creators will receive $250 each and a 5% one-time residual payment for any winning Videos based on their Idea. (That means if your winning Idea is the basis for the 1st place Video, you will receive $500, the 2nd place Video $375 – see Video Phase Payout details for more information.
PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:
The two most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $2,000 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $7,500, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $10,000. First Place video prize (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Idea winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.
PHASE 3: VIDEO – The two winners from the Pitch Phase will each create a 30-60 second Video based upon their winning Pitches.
NOTE: The 30-60 second video and 15 second cut-down are both due at the close of the Video Phase. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.
The Judges will score the two winning Videos submitted by Pitch winners to determine the standings for the Video Phase. Remember, two Pitch winners will receive prizes.
--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $10,000 and 2nd place $7,500 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to the Idea winners, as applicable).
