For 100 years, ARRI has been empowering and inspiring filmmakers for generations, so we’re seeking films that exemplify all the ways that ARRI gear inspires you and your unique creative vision. We’re asking filmmakers to submit projects that look to answer the question: what is it about ARRI cameras, lenses, or lighting that evokes emotion and inspires your imagination?

WILDCARD ENTRANTS:  a select number of Wildcard entrants will be able to reserve a reservation spot to receive an ARRI ALEXA Mini rental kit from AbelCine at a 50% discount. YOU MUST CONFIRM YOUR ABILITY TO PICK UP YOUR RENTAL PACKAGE AT ABELCINE’S RENTAL HOUSE IN EITHER LOS ANGELES OR NEW YORK.

Inspiring your vision.

Located in Munich, Germany, Arnold and Richter Cine Technik (ARRI) was founded in 1917 and is the largest manufacturer of professional motion picture equipment in the world.

Throughout its 100-year history, ARRI has been associated with breakthrough innovation and revolutionary technologies in all of its core businesses. The company is involved in practically every aspect of the motion picture production: from engineering, and manufacturing, to equipment and studio lighting solutions, to postproduction and visual effects.

ARRI’s digital camera lineup includes the ALEXA 65, ALEXA SXT, ALEXA Mini and AMIRA cameras, which combine unsurpassed image quality with intuitive workflows for the best overall production value. ARRI SkyPanel and L-Series lighting fixtures incorporate the latest advances in LED illumination, while ARRI cine lenses such as the Master Anamorphic series and Ultra Wide Zoom redefine optical excellence. Pro Camera Accessories and the Electronic Control System simplify tasks on set and in post, and ARRISCAN archive technologies are helping to preserve the world’s cinematic heritage.

Now ARRI, AbelCine, and Tongal are looking to you to Pitch a 2-3 minute video about how ARRI cameras, lenses and/or lighting inspires your imagination. Read on to the Objectives for more info, project timeline, and most importantly, prizing.

The goal of this project is to create a 2–3 minute Video that illustrates how ARRI inspires your creative and cinematic vision. Your videos can be anything. ARRI is open to really creative projects – doesn’t have to be straight narrative, or straight doc; could even be an art piece. All we require is that you adhere to the time constraints and the executional mandatories set out in the brief, but what’s most important is that your video effectively get the point across about how ARRI or ARRI gear inspires you as a creator.

Here’s what you could win:

GRAND PRIZE: ARRI ALEXA Mini camera package and ALURA LWZ Zoom Lens

FIRST RUNNER UP: ARRI WCU-4 Wireless Compact Unit

SECOND RUNNER UP: ARRI SkyPanel

4th–8th PLACE: $3,000 each + tickets to any upcoming ARRI ACADEMY training course

All finalists will have their completed films shown at a special public screening event as well as on ARRI’s and AbelCine’s websites.

To get there, three filmmakers will win Pitch prizing to put towards the creation of their Videos, and be guaranteed a spot in the final Video Phase and eligible for Video Prizing upon turning in completed work that fits the criteria laid out in this brief. Five additional filmmakers will be awarded Video Prizes as Wildcard submissions. But that’s not all – one filmmaker will receive a Grand Prize package, including an ARRI ALEXA Mini camera package.

The three Pitch winners will each receive $10,000 and an ARRI ALEXA Mini rental package from AbelCine to put to use in the creation of their Videos. Remember, three filmmakers will be awarded Pitch prizing.

The Pitch winners will also be required to make social posts throughout the Video Production Phase. A Tongal producer will provide more information about this once the Pitch Phase has closed.

Project Details: This Project will be worth a total of $45,000 plus soft prizing and consists of three Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Video Phase and a Revisions Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video using:

  • Text Synopsis (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Preferred Rental House (REQUIRED): Please specify if you would be picking up your ARRI rental package from AbelCine in New York or in Los Angeles.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in the video.
  • Key Personnel Biographies (REQUIRED): A background on the key crew and/or cast members attached to your project.
  • Pitch Video (REQUIRED): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

The three most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $10,000 plus an ARRI rental package from AbelCine in either New York or Los Angeles to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you are automatically eligible for one of the prizing packages, including $3,000, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the Grand Prize of an ARRI ALEXA Mini camera package and ALURA LWZ Zoom Lens. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: VIDEO – The Pitch Winners will each create a 2–3 minute Video based upon their winning Pitch.

All other creators are invited to enter a Wildcard (What Is a Wildcard?) submission. After revisions are completed (see the Revisions Phase details for more information), the Judges will score all Wildcard submissions and up to five highest scoring Wildcard Videos along with the three winning Videos submitted by Pitch winners will be scored to determine the standings for the Video Phase. Remember, the three Pitch winners, along with up to five Wildcard creators, will receive prizes.

--Video Phase Payout:   Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes:

  • GRAND PRIZE: ARRI ALEXA Mini camera package and ALURA LWZ Zoom Lens
  • FIRST RUNNER UP: ARRI WCU-4 Wireless Compact Unit
  • SECOND RUNNER UP: ARRI SkyPanel
  • 4th–8th PLACE: $3,000 each + tickets to any upcoming ARRI ACADEMY training course

Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a custom music solution for your project are invited to connect with SCORE A SCORE. They specialize in the creation of custom music, on-demand.
