TZGZ Interstitial Video Shenanigans Concepting Project
Concept
03/20/20 - 03/27/20

Share a concept for a hilarious and weird short interstitial video series for SYFY's adult late-night animation block, TZGZ.

So, if you can imagine a sarcastic magical corgi as the host of cooking competition series, then you're probably in the right headspace for this TZGZ project. Or, actually, just check out TZGZ's Fucked Up Fairytales, because that'll help you understand what SYFY's looking for in their short interstitials.

See, TZGZ is SYFY's late night animated comedy block - hilarious, twisted, trippy, irreverent, self-aware, and very adult - and SYFY wants concepts for a series of very short animated interstitials that can air between their longer programming. We're talking 60 seconds, max, and they're looking for something that viewers can understand instantly without much setup. Fucked Up Fairy Tales and High Wizard are examples where the concept is clear from the start, and that allows us to jump right into the humor.

It's important that these are funny & repeatable, and that they're still geared towards fans of genre content (...which is obviously why that corgi was magic). There's more info and some examples in the Background/Additional Details, so chew on that, and let's get into some shenanigans.

EXPOSURE: Videos will air on SYFY during TZGZ programming, and also be posted on SYFY.com, as well on SYFY’s digital and social platforms.

TARGET AUDIENCE:  Adult fans of comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and genre content

TONE: Hilarious, weird, provocative, mind-bending, absurdist, playful, a little off-kilter. If we watch and laugh and go "WTF?!" then you did your job.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Be funny. Seriously. But not like, literally seriously; we just mean we're serious about being funny. You get it. You're smart. That's what we like about you. And also that you're funny.
  • You videos must have some sort of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, or genre element. Feel free to interpret that broadly and combine genres, use sub-genres, or bring a retro spin on genres from another era. Be specific though, and avoid all boring and generic elements that people have seen before. For example: UFO abductions - we've seen dozens. You can do better.
  • All work MUST be original, and should NOT include or reference existing IP. Any persons, places or things rendered should be of the artist’s own creation and should not be referential of any existing properties.
  • AVOID graphically violent or sexual images, or overtly political subject matter.

The TZGZ block consists of old favorites like Futurama, acquired web series like Purgatony, and some original content. The night is wrapped with interstitials that focus on truly strange WTF characters, concepts, and animation to give TZGZ a unique and comedic tone throughout the night. It's a little trippy, indulges in being irreverent, and always very funny.

TZGZ INTERSTITIAL CONTENT FOR REFERENCE:

P.S. Don't submit a Magical Corgi Cookoff idea. We worked real hard on that ourselves and we were super proud. Shared it with our Moms. If you submit it too, we'll like, hunt you down and smash your face into a cake or something, mmkay?  Don't do it. Be creative and original.
