Create an emotionally engaging 20-second TV Commercial for the French and European markets that reminds people of the genuine comfort and richness of softness coming from a Mother’s love. The video should reinforce the message that by using Soupline they’ll be able to experience this same kind of unique softness in their fabrics.

In a world full of rough edges, we find comfort and reassurance in simple things.  It’s amazing how a touch of softness that reminds us of our mother’s love can soothe us. The touch of by softness is a reassuring and enjoyable experience.

Soupline is the leading fabric softener in Europe that truly understands the value and importance of softness in our lives. They know that the soft touch of your fresh clothes can be as comforting as that of the love a mother gives. It is their genuine tender care for your clothes that gives you a richness of soft touch that is familiar and brings comfort.

The core motivation for buying a fabric softener is softness, but more and more people are buying softeners for their fragrance – which is only an enhancer. Soupline wants to remind people of the importance of softness and the real difference it makes by drawing a connection between the softness of Soupline with the warm and gentle love of mothers.

Help Soupline communicate its softness superiority and make people want to feel and smell their softness by creating a TV commercial for the French and European markets that shows Soupline can make them feel the comfort of a mother’s love through their softness and scents.

Read on for details.

The goal of this project is to create an emotionally engaging 20-second TV Commercial for the French and European markets, along with two (2) 10-second cut-downs, reminding people of the genuine comfort and richness of softness coming from a Mother’s love. The video should leverage the iconic love that is felt between a mother and a child as a symbol of how Soupline offers gentle and warm comfort, in both the softness that it gives clothes, and in its soothing scents.

In short, your video should raise the importance of softness and make people want to feel the Soupline softness. When submitting your Idea, think about the insight: In a world full of rough edges, we find comfort and reassurance in simple things.

**Keep in mind that the Sponsor ultimately wants something that is emotional and relatable. The visuals and/or example should not be extreme or feel surreal.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The commercial will be primarily for the French market, but will likely air in other territories in Europe such as Belgium, Greece, Denmark, and Sweden, and there’s a chance it may also air in Australia and Latin America.
  • Given the above, we suggest that your video be driven by visuals rather than by dialogue. This will make it easier to adapt across different territories. However, if you do decide to use dialogue, it should be executed in authentic French from France.
  • Softness needs to be the Soupline key benefit reinforced by the video, scents should be shown only as an enhancer of the comforting Soupline softness.
  • Soupline is a steady, long-trusted brand that stands for unconditional love and the care of loved ones.
  • Soupline is an approachable expert, smart and thoughtful, and unique and authentic.
  • Upon delivery of Final Master Video Files, you will also be required to deliver Project Files on a hard drive. A hard drive will be provided for this purpose.

PRE-PRODUCTION NOTE: This project includes a Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). This means you will be required to submit certain items for Approval before moving onto the Video Phase. The Approval items for this project are:

  • SCRIPT  – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.
  • ANIMATION TREATMENT – *If the Pitch-Winner’s approach incorporates animation, this project also requires Animation Treatment Approval before filmmaker can move onto the Video Phase. The treatment should describe how you plan to execute the video and how you plan to bring the storytelling to life visually, and it should addresses character designs, animation style, color and tone, and other design cues that may be relevant to your Pitch. The sponsor may provide feedback on your Treatment and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback.
  • HEADSHOT  – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.
  • WARDROBE - This project requires Wardrobe Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.
  • LOCATION - You must submit multiple images of your primary filming locations. The brand may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.

NOTE: No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

If you’re selected as a Pitch Winner, a Tongal producer will email you to help walk you through the Pre-Production and Approvals process.

NOTE: The 20-second video and two (2) 10-second cut-downs are all due at the close of the Video Phase.  Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos. Upon delivery of Final Master Video Files, you will also be required to deliver Project Files on a hard drive. A hard drive will be provided for this purpose.

--Key Marketing Messages:  Find comfort in the richness of Soupline’s softness

--Target Audience: 20-35 year-old women, primarily in France, but this may also be distributed in other European territories such as Belgium, Greece, Denmark, and Sweden, so the secondary target is that broader European market.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • If your commercial uses dialogue, the actors will need to speak authentic French from France. That is, they need to have an accent from France.
  • Do not show competitive products or brands.
  • When casting, be careful not to have a higher ratio of Non-European nationalities represented. Remember that this spot is mainly for the European market.

--Tone:  The commercial should be uplifting, tender, genuine, and relatable. It should be modern, vibrant, innovative, and appeal to younger consumers (but also to the general public).

**There can be humor, but it should be the lighthearted and with a tinkle in your eye. It should not be over the top or absurd, and should not come at the expense of anyone.

--Exposure: TV and Digital Channels primarily in France, but likely to also be distributed in other European territories such as Belgium, Greece, Denmark, and Sweden. May potentially also air in Australia and Latin America.

--Product: Depending on the approach, the Soupline team will determine whether product is needed, and if so, provide the appropriate product.

This Project will be worth a total of $54,000 and consists of 5 Phases: an Idea Phase, a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase, and a Revisions Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1 - IDEA PHASE: Tell us your Idea in 140 characters or less. Remember, an Idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video. As always, Ideas should be clever and engaging. The winning Idea creators will receive $250 each . There are no residuals for this project.

PHASE 2 - PITCH PHASE: Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on a winning Idea using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in the video.
  • Script (REQUIRED): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The ONE (1) most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the Pitch Winner will receive $18,000 to help their ONE (1) 20-second TV Commercial, along with the TWO (2) 10-second cut-downs. Additionally, upon submitting Videos that satisfy the criteria laid out in their winning Pitch, the Pitch Winner will also be GUARANTEED an additional $35,250 at the close of the Video Phase, and be eligible for selection to move forward into the Video Phase. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Test Video Phase is announced.

If you’re selected as the Winner of the Pitch Phase, a Tongal producer will email you to help walk you through the Pre-Production and Approvals process.

PHASE 3 - PRE-PRODUCTION PHASE:  The ONE Pitch Winner from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:

PHASE 4 - VIDEO PHASE: Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner will create ONE (1) 20-second TV Commercial, along with TWO (2) 10-second cut-downs, based upon their winning Pitch.

NOTE: The 20-second video and 10-second cut-downs are all due at the close of the Video Phase. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.
