Snowpiercer Season 2 Train Car Design Project
Pitch

Design
02/20/21 - 02/22/21

Put your creativity and imagination to work to design a suite of train car interiors for Snowpiercer, the massive train from the hit TNT series of the same name, and Snowpiercer's sister train, Big Alice.

Last year, Tongal graphic designers created train car interiors for Snowpiercer, the post-apocalyptic, perpetually moving train built to save humanity, as the show of the same name premiered on TNT – and quickly became the #1 new drama for 2020. Now a smash hit, the second season just started airing and features new talent like Sean Bean as Mr. Wilford and Rowan Blanchard as Alexandra Cavill, as well as a new train named Big Alice, a supply train with a few surprises of its own. Building off of the success of both the show and the over 40 train cars our community designed, TNT is looking for up to 14 designers to create 70 new train car designs.

Together, Snowpiercer and Big Alice are comprised of 1,034 cars – each serving a unique purpose and with a one-of-a-kind design. Your train cars will live on WilfordIndustries.com alongside cars designed by comic book artists, influencers, Snowpiercer talent, fans, other Tongal designers, and more. We're open to broad design styles (hand-drawn, computer-generated, photo elements, etc.) as well as broad creative approaches, so don't hold your imagination back. Think about what  could be a part of a train representing all of humanity, society, and a single global government: What happens in that train car, and who has access to it? This is a chance to flex your imagination and your artistic skills and be a part of an interactive world fans will get to explore. WarnerMedia is looking to greenlight a lot of designs, which means there's a strong chance your work could be exhibited side-by-side works from other artists big and small.

While WarnerMedia is looking for your unique creative POVs, we've got some thought-starters, easter eggs, and helpful info in the Background section to help get you started. If you have ideas for more than 5 designs we encourage you to submit multiple pitches – you could receive more than one greenlight.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Five Designs for Snowpiercer train cars (1920x1080 JPG or PNG, max file size of 5MB), using templates provided in the Assets tab.
  • Five train car descriptions (one for each car), each up to 220 characters, including each car's class designation (First, Second, or Third Class)

TIMELINE: For the full project timeline please see the Assets section.

EXPOSURE:

  • WilfordIndustries.com
  • WarnerMedia-owned social media pages, including a dedicated Instagram for Snowpiercer and Big Alice car designs.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Your pitch must include concepts for 5 designs and sample art for one of those designs. You may create wholly unique designs or you may base one or more of your designs off of the above lists of cars of interest.
  • Your sample design/mockup must use one of the train car templates provided in the Assets tab.
  • You must include a title (the name of your train car) and a one-sentence description for each of your five train cars.
  • There should be a door at the far end of your car, connecting it to the next car.
  • Consider subtle placement of the Wilford Industries "W" logo.
  • Windows and skylights are fine but remember that exterior scenery should be snowy.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal, up to $2,000 per suite of 5 designs.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Creative Thoughtstarters:

To help you round out your designs, here are some cars or types of cars WarnerMedia is interested in. This list is far from exhaustive, and we really want to see what you come up with first and foremost, but you can also include designs for:

  • Residential cars: different ages, design styles, themed rooms, etc.
  • Food-centric cars: delis, coffee shops, ethnically- or regionally-specific restaurants, patisseries, cheesemongers, cooking schools, etc.
  • In addition, WarnerMedia is interested in seeing cars that relate to specific narrative arcs or elements for Season 2; more information and reference images will be provided to greenlit designers:
    • Eccentric, mysterious, fanciful environments with a dark twist or element (think Willy Wonka's factory)
    • A throne room car, or cars that hold a seat of power (think Game of Thrones)
    • A basketball court, in an unbranded nod to NBA on TNT
    • A medical experiment or clinic car; somewhere that dark science is practiced
    • Wilford's personal quarters

Similarly, you should check out the existing train cars on WilfordIndustries.com to get a sense of what's already been created to avoid redundancy.

  • Cars to avoid include:
    • Leisure cars (arcades, libraries, theaters)
    • Living quarters, schools, gyms, theaters, dining halls
    • Utility cars: see PDF in the Assets tab for existing utility cars

Catch up on Snowpiercer season 1 and get started on Season 2 on TNT and TNTDrama.com, the TNT App, or HBO Max. Check out the current train car designs already live on WilfordIndustries.com.

Series synopsis: Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation.

Season 2 synopsis: In season two, an entirely new power struggle emerges, causing a dangerous rift as people are divided between their loyalty to Layton and to Mr Wilford, who has a new train, new technology and a game plan that keeps everyone guessing. While Layton battles Wilford for the soul of Snowpiercer, Melanie leads the charge on a shocking new discovery that could change the fate of humanity.?

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • SAMPLE TRAIN CAR DESIGN (REQUIRED): A sample design of one of your five train cars, built off of one of the train car templates provided in the Assets tab.  Your sample design can be a mock-up of what your fully fleshed-out design will look like.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed description of each of your five proposed train cars, including the title of each car. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous design work. Please link to individual designs if possible.

  • BID (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal, up to $2,000 per pitch of 5 designs.

  • ADDITIONAL PAST WORK (Optional): If you have any previous work that may not be available online, you may provide that here, along with information about what each design was for.

Up to 14 of the most compelling pitches will be greenlit, and the responsible creators will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing the next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure that you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven't unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of any funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Design Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Designers will perform reasonable edits on their designs according to the Sponsor’s feedback.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS: You must also provide layered design files in order to submit final payment.

For Tongal’s file delivery specs and any other questions you may have about post production, please click here.
