Snapchat is starting to produce Original Series, so Tongal wants to hear your best Pitches for a Snapchat Original Series and help get your show made!

Note: Snapchat is not sponsoring this project.

In case you haven’t heard, Snapchat is taking over. Their newest move - beyond funny snaps, Live Stories, and lenses – is to become a TV-like network for short-form vertical video series.

That’s why we’re turning to you, Tongalers:

  • For what? Snapchat Original Series Pitches – we want to see everything from competition shows and reality shows like “Survivor”, to prank series like “Punk’d”, and even animated and sketch comedy show ideas.
  • How long? Short-form, with episodes between 2-6 minutes long.
  • Other important info? Yes, your show must be in a vertical video format that will appeal to Snapchat users – so factor that in when you’re concepting. Also note that Snapchat is not sponsoring this project.
  • Daily inspo? Sure. Go for something original, but if you’re particularly enamored by a Discover channel like Refinery29, Vice, ESPN, Tastemade or Nat Geo, you can submit a Pitch tailored towards their brand voice. Or maybe you know an “influencer” or have a hilarious BFF you’ve been dying to put in their own Snapchat Original Series, well here’s your chance to create a show around them.
  • Want an example of what they’re buying? OK. On the international version of its Snapchat Discover channel, MTV is launching three new video series this fall: “Show Us Ur Phone” a game show in which host Charlotte Crosby ambushes couples on the street and goes through their phones; “MTV Sex Squad” a show featuring vlogger Grace Victory as she interviews guests and dispenses advice about sex; and “MTV Threads” a five-minute series that will interview musicians like DNCE and Zara Larsson about their fashion choices.

Think character-driven, think high-concept, think vertical. Submit your Pitch in 10, 9, 8, 7…

The goal of this project is to discover and award two (2) Pitches for a compelling Snapchat original series that Tongal and YOU can develop and potentially pitch to Snapchat. Note: This Project is not sponsored by Snapchat.

All submissions require a Pitch Video for this project. This is an opportunity to show us your passion and storytelling vision!

Design your Snapchat Original Series so that it –

  • Speaks to a Millennial audience.
  • Works well in vertical video.
  • Has a repeatable and recognizable format.
  • Has two (2) to six (6) minute long episodes.

This project is open to all genres including the following. Please select one from the dropdown menu on the Pitch submission form.

  • Competition
  • Reality
  • Prank
  • Animated
  • Comedy
  • Wildcard – the show format is up to you!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Heads up, guys! This project is a little different than most. If you are selected as a Pitch Winner, Tongal may or may not sell your pitch to Snapchat. However, Tongal will retain the rights to the creative concept of your Pitch if you win and you will receive the Pitch earnings. If you are selected as a Pitch winner AND your pitch is sold to Snapchat, we will share the revenue with you.

--Target Audience:  Millennials on Snapchat

--Tone: Anything goes!

--Exposure: Intended for use on Snapchat.

This Project will be worth a total of $2,000 and consists of one (1) phase: a Pitch Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Snapchat Original Series based on the Project Objective, using:

  • Synopsis (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Pitch Video (REQUIRED): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in the video.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

The two (2) most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $1,000 to develop the Pitch with Tongal and prepare to take it into a buyer. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.  The two (2) Pitch winners rights transfer to Tongal for 1 year, at the end of which Tongal has the option to renew. All Non-Winning Pitches rights revert back to submitters.
