Skills.com wants your 60-120-second Video about what it takes to make a successful cold-call.

As you can see, the project brief looks a little bit different on this project. This is one of the first Tongalx Alpha projects. For more information about Tongalx Alpha, check out the blog post here.

We're looking for pitches to that will create a "skills video" bringing this Big Idea to life:

Cold-calling is one of the hardest things to do. While working at a casting job, we had a quota of people we needed to reach and the whole room could hear everyone's phone calls. It would take a different amount of time for each individual but ultimately shyness would subside and the fear would dissipate. Practicing brings confidence. Confidence allows you to never be intimidated by a phone or a person, cold calling warms up your ability to approach anyone in any situation.

Successful pitches will tell us how they plan to create a video highlighting and explaining tips for "picking up the phone." Maybe you or someone you know is really good at this? Get that person on camera, or as your narrator -- that would be a great start!

All of the information that you need to pitch on and make an amazing 60-120-second Video is contained in the Background and Objectives sections.

Your 60-120 second Video should explain and depict the necessary skills for making a successful cold-call.

--Key Marketing Messages:

  • Cold-calling may seem like a difficult thing to master, but it's actually easier than you think.
  • You can improve your existing skills or learn new ones at Skills.com

--Audience: Professionals. Ages 22-55

--Tone: Warm, encouraging, knowledgeable, confident.

--Executional Mandatories:

Your video should not feel too polished. The premise behind skills.com is that experts can share their knowledge with a wide audience even if they're not professional filmmakers. That said, please be sure to make all the core competencies of filmmaking are well represented: sound, lighting, framing, editing, etc.

--Exposure: Skills.com website and Skills.com social media.

This Project will be worth a total of $2,500 and consists of 2 Phases: a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

The 1 most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $1,000 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $1,500. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.
