Quick Hits: Female Superhero Voiceover Project
Voiceover
01/11/21 - 01/13/21

In this Quick Hit project, we're looking for a female voiceover artist with some high quality audio equipment to record a couple lines of dialogue for the role of a Black superhero Mother, roughly aged 25-40, based on a script we're providing.

Got a few minutes, a great mic (and maybe a little sound mixing know-how)? We're running an experimental "Quick Hit" project here to source voiceover audio for a :30 animated Black History Month video that we're delivering for this SYFY project. We need is a voiceover artist with high quality sound & recording equipment who can read a couple empowering lines of dialogue from this script. The filmmaker is a talented animator, but audio's outside his area of expertise. Though it's not mandatory, it's preferred that the talent identify as BIPOC, and it could be a huge help if you have any experience mixing your own sound too.

The :30 script tells the story of Lady Kia - a young Black superhero in the middle of the battle of her life against a Godzilla-type monster. In a flashback sequence, we see Lady Kia's mom explain to a young Lady Kia that she comes from a long line of superheroes and has the power within her to rise to this moment. Back in the present, Lady Kia defeats the monster and saves the city.

The dialogue in the script occurs in the flashback sequence, and the tone for this section is dreamy, empowering, and inspirational. While the dialogue is spoken by Lady Kia's mom, we'll also need you to record a "gasp" sound effect from Lady Kia. The line and sound effect are highlighted in yellow in the script.

If this sounds interesting to you (or someone you know), submit a reading of the dialogue and the sound effect. If you're selected, the videos's still in revisions, so we may ask for a re-record just to get the timing right against animation. If you're able to help with the mix, there's not really any need for sound design - it's just a question of levels for the sound effects music, and dialogue.

DELIVERABLES: One VO recording of the provided script and sound effect, delivered as .WAV and .MP3

EXPOSURE: Videos will air on SYFY and also be posted on SYFY.com, as well on SYFY’s digital and social platforms.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Feel free to record more than one take, and leave some silence between the dialogue so it's easy to edit.
  • No background audio, music, or SFX should be audible.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your submission.

  • AUDIO (REQUIRED): One .wav or .mp3 recording of you reading the line and sound effect in the provided script. The line and sound effect are highlighted in yellow in the script.

  • NOTES (Optional): If you have sound mixing/editing experience, please let us know in the Notes field.

Upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, and any revisions required, the most compelling submission will $250.
