Hey everybody, dust off your spy-glass and get ready to solve a new puzzle because we’ve got a tidy little riddle for you:
Clue #1: It’s totally new: a two-part project for a “Mystery Sponsor” with NO filmmaking component. Just a NAME and a VISUALIZATION, so anyone can participate.
Clue #2: Although we can’t tell you which brand it’s for, we can tell you a little about the product-category. It’s your trusty old-friend, deodorant. Chances are you’ve had a long, co-dependent relationship together protecting you from odor and sweat-- thanks, puberty.
Clue #3: This deodorant is for guys. Masculine, confident, ambitious guys… guys like “Jack.” Everyone knows a “Jack” – he’s the kind of person that seems to know where he’s going, without having to make a stage-production out of it. Age wise, let’s just say Jack’s a millennial. He’s attractive, but he’s no narcissist. He’s in control of his life and his look. It’s his -- and he’s good with it. Good grooming is something he takes pleasure in, but he doesn’t obsess about it. And a good smell isn’t something he uses to overwhelm anybody. After all, Jack knows that he’s going to take center stage: not some overcooked bro-hammer cologne. Not a Jack move.
Jack’s optimistic, enjoying the glide (and the bumps) that mark his transition from the free-wheeling college days to the grittier, but much-preferred real world. Jack welcomes the challenges head-on. He likes his friends, both his fellow-guys and the girls they hang with. He also likes himself – likes who he’s turning out to be.
So…now imagine you’re this altogether together guy: Jack. And you’re doing your shopping for the week which you’ve found, oddly enough, that you rather like doing. But there you are…facing a store shelf with seemingly endless deodorant options. Here’s the challenge: which product is going to make you think: “Well…yeah. Obviously this one is for me, I need this specific deodorant. I like the name. Like the look. I like the way it smells. This stuff is going to work. I’m going to look right, smell great and be CONFIDENT.”
Okay, now it’s your turn: put YOUR whole nose to the grindstone, both elbows in the grease: and CREATE THAT PRODUCT! NAME IT FIRST. Then show it to us.
The goal of this project is to generate creative NAMES and VISUALIZATIONS (conceptual visual tools, mood boards, tone reels, powerful images, etc.) for a deodorant product that men like Jack will need in their lives.
First, the NAME. Make sure and put a “wow factor” in it. Sure, Jack is cool, relaxed -- but a great name will help him remember… So, give it a personality. A hook. Use powerful words that evoke emotion and convey the essence of this product as YOU understand it.
Next: VISUALIZATIONS. Put us in that mood. Make us see how it feels, and feel how it looks.
Whatever your product, Names and Visualizations should feel distinct, and potent. They should be relevant to the consumer we’ve described. (Jack!)
--Target Audience: 20-something males who know where they’re headed, and want to get the most out of life: sharing the whole experience with their friends.
--Tone: No nonsense.
This project will be worth a total of $12,500 and consist of two phases, a Naming Phase, and a Visualization Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: NAME – Come up with a creative, original, memorable and timeless name for this new product. In the “title” section of the submission form, place your name for the new product and, in the body, add any color that you think will support your submission (e.g. why would Jack buy it?). Put a “wow factor” behind the name and evoke emotions that convey the essence of this new product.
PHASE 2: VISUALIZATION – Give us your best Visualization (conceptual visual tools, mood boards, tone reels, powerful images, etc.) based on one of the winning Names. The FIVE most compelling Visualizations will be selected and (upon submitting their Winner's Affidavit and IP Assignment) the winners of the Visualization Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $3,000, 2nd place $2,500, 3rd place $2,000, 4th place $1,500, 5th place $1,000 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to Name winners, as applicable). All Visualizations will remain private indefinitely to avoid information cascades.
--Music: Tongal has partnered with Audiosocket, a boutique music licensing and technology company representing more than 2,400 emerging bands, composers and record labels. This is not "stock" music. It is an inventory of more than 40,000 original, culturally relevant songs and music that have been compiled into a premium roster. Audiosocket's music will be available to Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Tongal members' submissions to the Mystery Sponsor Project. Tongal members are encouraged to browse the Audiosocket roster, available by clicking on the "Audiosocket" button on the right hand side of this page. If you are interested in using a track from the Audiosocket roster, as described above, just add the track(s) you want to use to your cart using the "+cart" button, then click the "checkout" button. Enter the Tongal project name and click the "purchase and download" button to acquire the track for free ($0.00). Lastly, click the "download track" button, which will initiate the music file download. You may only use THREE Audiosocket tracks maximum as part of your video submission.
