The goal of this project is to create two 30 second and two 15 second cut downs featuring Oral-B manual toothbrushes and NASCAR driver Ryan Newman.
Odds are you’ve brushed those pearly whites of yours with an Oral-B manual toothbrush. It’s also likely that you haven’t given any thought to how these state of the art toothbrushes are designed and manufactured.
Turns out that seemingly simple Oral-B manual toothbrush has some truly remarkable and innovative engineering behind it. From the way the bristles are patterned to the ergonomics of the handle there is a tremendous amount of thought behind these toothbrushes, similar to the level of thought and technical expertise behind an ultra high performance stock car.
If you follow NASCAR, and even if you don’t, chances are you’ve heard of Ryan Newman: driver of the No. 31 Chevrolet. Besides turning winning into an art form and winning the Daytona 500 in 2008, Newman is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Vehicle Structure Engineering. Ryan doesn’t know how to just race cars he knows how to design and build them. Cole Trickle eat your heart out!
Sometimes, you really can’t judge a book by its cover…A NASCAR driver carrying a degree in engineering? A seemingly simple toothbrush that is secretly the pinnacle of design? Both have perfectly balanced simplicity. Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Sure, but how exactly? That’s for you to figure out, we just post the projects and let you deal with the thinking part. Before you start racking that noggin’ of yours though you should be aware that the winning Idea will be the basis for a national broadcast spot featuring Ryan Newman! The Tongal filmmaker with the winning Pitch will go on to shoot that winning Idea! You don’t have to have a degree in Vehicle Structure Engineering to see the opportunity before you. Good luck and may the best Tongalers win!
The goal of this project is to create two 30 second and two 15 second cut downs featuring Oral-B manual toothbrushes and NASCAR driver Ryan Newman. Videos need to feature Ryan Newman while highlighting specific design features of Oral-B manual toothbrushes (please see the Key Marketing Messages section below for a list of the individual features you can use for inspiration.) This is your opportunity to cleverly integrate one of the most popular toothbrushes in the world with one of NASCAR’s biggest personalities.

This Project will be worth a total of $65,000 and consists of three Phases: an Idea Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: IDEA – Tell us your Idea for an Oral-B video featuring NASCAR driver Ryan Newman in 140 characters or less. Remember, an Idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video. As always, Ideas should be clever and engaging. The winning Idea creators will receive $1,250 each.
PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:
The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $30,000 to help create their Video and cover their travel expenses to Charlotte. Additionally, upon submitting videos that satisfy the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $30,000. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.
PHASE 3: VIDEO – The winner from the Pitch Phase will create TWO 30 second spots with a 15 second cut down of each based upon their winning Pitch. In addition, the winning filmmaker will be required to create a behind the scenes video that will appear on Oral-B’s social channels. As mentioned above filmmakers will be required to pay for and arrange their own travel to Charlotte.
--Video Phase Payout: Upon turning in the final revised deliverables specified above the winning filmmaker will be paid a final payment of $30,000.
--Music: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audiosocket, Killer Tracks and Music Dealers. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. You may use up to THREE total tracks per Video submission, and they can come from any of the three providers listed above. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.
If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.
