Create a shareable Video, up to 60 seconds in length (with a 30-second cutdown and 5 still images), that communicates how Member’s Mark Exceed Dog Food lets owners pamper their pets with high quality food that won’t burn a hole in their pocket.

* Attention Pitch Submitters! Before crafting your Pitches, please be sure to check out the sponsor’s note on the winning Concepts to ensure your materials are capturing the right tone**

Aside from the occasional surprise gift they leave on your living room floor, there is a reason why dogs have been crowned man’s best friend. They’re loyal, they’re sweet, and above all else, they’re pretty darn cute.

So it’s only natural that pet owners want to provide the very best for their pooches. Luckily, the Member’s Mark line at Sam’s Club has fully embraced this mantra with their high quality dog food brand, Exceed. Offered in a variety of tasty flavors and containing a plethora of health benefits, Exceed keeps your furry friends both happy and healthy. More on the benefits and ingredients can be found in the Assets tab.

But here’s the best part: Exceed lets owners give their dogs the 5-star treatment at a cost that won’t break the bank. It offers the same quality as specialty brand dog foods for only a third of the price! Think of all the extra goodies those savings could buy your pup: a fancy chew toy, a blinged out collar, or even doggie overalls (yes they actually exist).

To help get the word out on Exceed, we’re turning to YOU, to come up with some PAWESOME Videos that highlight the quality and affordability of this dog food line. When crafting your Concepts, think about the following questions and use them as a guiding insight:

  • Why are pets an important part of owner’s lives?
  • How does the role of food play into this?

Exceed is open to a variety of directions – whether they be hilarious or heartfelt. Check out the objectives section for more important details…

The goal of this project is to create a incredibly shareable Video, up to 60-seconds in length (with a 30-second cutdown and 5 still images), that communicates how Member’s Mark Exceed Dog Food lets owners pamper their pets with high quality food without burning a hole in their pockets.

We’re looking for something that captures viewers’ attentions and won’t let go. Whether you decide to take the comical route - like this awesome previous Member’s Mark spot - or go the more emotional, tug-at-your-heartstrings route is up to you.

This Project will be worth a total of $34,000 and consists of 4 Phases: a Concept Phase, a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: CONCEPT – Tell us your Concept 250 characters or less. Remember, a Concept is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video. As always, Concepts should be clever and engaging. The winning Concept creators will receive $250 each and a 5% one-time residual payment for any winning Videos based on their Concept. (That means if your winning Concept is the basis for the 1st place Video, you will receive $650, the 2nd place Video $500) – see Video Phase Payout details for more information.

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in the video.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The 2 most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $5,000 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $10,000, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $13,000 First Place video prize (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Idea winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: PRE-PRODUCTION – The two Pitch Winners from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:

  • SCRIPT  – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.
  • HEADSHOT  – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.
  • STORYBOARD - This project requires Storyboard Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your storyboard and ask you to submit a new version of the storyboard.

No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

PHASE 4: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the 2 winners from the Pitch Phase will each create a 60-second Video based upon their winning Pitch.

NOTE: The 60-second video, the 30-second cut-down, and 5 still images are all due at the close of the Video Phase. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

The Judges will score the 2 winning Videos submitted by Pitch winners to determine the standings for the Video Phase. Remember, the 2 Pitch winners will receive prizes.

--Video Phase Payout:  Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $13,000 and 2nd place $10,000 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to the Concept winners, as applicable).
