Create a 30 to 60 second Moment video recounting a meaningful memory you have of cooking, sharing and enjoying food at home with family or friends. One Pitch winning filmmaker will then create a 90 - 120 second combination Video incorporating original footage and the winning Moment videos.

For nearly 100 years, Thermador’s innovative cooking appliances have been bringing families together over delicious home-cooked meals. They’re looking to celebrate those meaningful food memories – the warm, nostalgic moments of families and friends cooking, sharing and enjoying food at home.

What’s a fond memory from your life when you and those you love bonded over a home-cooked meal? Perhaps it was when your whole extended family came together over a special reunion dinner. Perhaps it was that first Thanksgiving away from home, when you threw a special “Friendsgiving” with all your friends. Or maybe it was that time your grandmother finally showed you how to hand make gnocchi just like her.

Thermador wants to see your videos recounting those authentic food moments. If your Moment video is picked as a winner, it’ll become part of a touching longer-form Video created by the Pitch winning filmmaker. It might even influence Thermador’s next campaign! Be sure to read the objectives tab to find out more.

The goal of this project is to create a 30 to 60 second Moment video recounting a meaningful memory you have of cooking, sharing and enjoying food at home with family or friends. One Pitch winning filmmaker will then create a 90 - 120 second combination Video incorporating original footage and the winning Moment videos. The Pitch Winner will also edit the winning Moment videos as standalone films (see below for more info).

***There are two very different stages for this project so please pay careful attention to the details below.***

  1. Moment submitters will submit a talking head style video recounting their meaningful food moment. Ten Moment Winners will be selected.
  2. Filmmakers will then pitch to create a 90-120 second Video combining the winning Moment videos and original footage of their own. One Pitch Winner will be selected. He/She will also edit the ten winning Moment videos as standalone films.

Note To Moment Video Submitters: We want to hear those authentic food moments. Tell us about those emotional times you and your family/friends bonded over food. Whether it’s preparing it or eating it. It could be a dinner during a pivotal time in your life. Or a time preparing a home-cooked meal brought your family together. Or maybe a story about the food traditions being passed down from one generation to the next.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Heartwarming and emotional 30 to 60 second videos recounting fond food memories: families and friends bonding over a meal cooked at home, food that reminds you of a pivotal life moment or family recipes passed down from generation to generation.
  • Talent should be multigenerational and geographically diverse.
  • Please have no more than THREE people in your video.
  • Videos should focus on home cooking, meals and family recipes.

What We’re NOT Looking For:

  • We’re not looking for memories about dining out.
  • Please refrain from anything dark or depressing. Videos should be affectionate and nostalgic.
  • Videos should not feel like a commercial. The focus should be on meaningful food moments, not Thermador product features.
  • Do not mention Thermador competitors or products made by competitors in your video.
  • Please do not add a music track to your Moment video.

The Look of Your Video:

  • All videos should be shot talking head style. They should be interviews with the subject seated and framed from waist up. Their gaze should be slightly right of camera – not looking directly into it. See this clip for reference.
  • All subjects should be shot against a clean WHITE backdrop and be seated on a chair. Lighting should be clean and ample. See this article on three-point lighting if you’re unsure how to achieve this.
  • Subjects should not wear white clothes or any small/busy patterns. These will look strange on camera.
  • Videos should be shot in HD 1920x1080 format.
  • Make sure audio quality is excellent. Do not use the on board camera microphone. Use an external mic – either a boom mic or a lavaliere.

Note To Pitch Video Submitters: This is as much an editing project as it is a traditional Tongal video project. The ideal filmmaker will be able to successfully weave the winning Moment videos with his/her own original footage into an engaging video. Professional-quality titles, graphics and transitions are a MUST.

The Pitch Winner will also need to edit the ten winning Moment videos as standalone films. This means adding graphics, titles and a bumper to each Moment video, as well as any color correction or audio mastering needed. All ten edited Moment videos must be submitted with the combination Video at the close of the Video Phase.

--Tone: Warm and nostalgic.

--Exposure: Thermador’s website and social media channels (YouTube, Facebook, etc.).

This Project will be worth a total of $34,000 and consists of three Phases: a Moment Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: MOMENT – Send us a video recounting your meaningful food Moments in 30 to 60 seconds. The winning Moment creators will receive $1,500 each.

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.

  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video.

  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.

  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $2,000 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $15,000 First Place video prize (For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machine's winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The winner from the Pitch Phase will create a 60 to 120 second Video based upon their winning Pitch.

The Pitch Winner must also submit the edited Moment videos as ten standalone films with the combination Video at the close of the Video Phase.

--Video Phase Payout: The Winner of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $15,000.

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audioblocks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.
