We want you to create a fun and sharable 2-3 minute How-to Video for the LEGO Movie Maker app. We want to inspire kids to make their own LEGO movies and to share them on social media.

Lights! Camera! Action!

Wait! Stop, OK. Start again!

Lights! Camera! Action!

Wait, wait! OK, GO!

If you've ever created a stop-motion Video, you know that this process goes on and on… oh just about a ba-zillion times. But however long the day is, your actors and actresses never complain, and neither do you (well maybe just a little) and you LOVE what you're doing.

Welcome to the world of stop-motion animation where anyone, young or old, can sit in the director's seat and call the shots. The LEGO Group has made it easy for anyone and everyone to create these awesome Videos with its Movie Maker app (available for FREE in the iTunes App store). We want YOU to make a series of How-to Videos showing LEGO lovers everywhere how to utilize the app so that they can bring their LEGO stories to life!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • This project is FAST. Once the Pitch winner is selected, you’ll only have about TWO weeks to create your Pilot Video.
  • Revisions will be issued right before Christmas so PLAN ACCORDINGLY. ALL FINAL FILES FOR THE PILOT NEED TO BE DELIVERED BY DECEMBER 31, 2014.
  • While you only need to create and finish the Pilot Video by December 31, 2014, your Pitch should take into account that you could be creating an additional FIVE (5) Videos should you win the Pilot Phase.

We want you to create a fun and sharable 2-3 minute How-to Video for the LEGO Movie Maker app. We want to inspire kids to make their own LEGO movies and to share them on social media. Videos should show how the app gives LEGO lovers the opportunity to tell their own stories on a broad scale.

--Key Marketing Messages:

LEGO is a family brand and fun for everyone. LEGO products inspire creativity and ones own energy to be creative and to bring imagination to life.

--Target Audience:

The target audience is children ages 6-12 and fans of LEGO.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • All Videos need to have strong LEGO branding.
  • The LEGO legal line and closing signature needs to be added to all LEGO submissions.
  • Videos must maintain the positive tone of voice while being inspirational and authentic.
  • We want to make sure it feels like anyone can make a movie; it’s as easy as 1-2-3!

--Tone: Fun, light-hearted, authentic and whimsical while being informative.

--Exposure: LEGO YouTube and LEGO.com. Potentially retailer web sites and global usage.

This project will be worth a total of $80,000 and consist of THREE Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Pilot Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a LEGO Movie Maker Video using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

While you only need to create and finish the Pilot Video by December 31, 2014, your Pitch should take into account that you could be creating an additional FIVE (5) Videos should you win the Pilot Phase.

The TWO most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $5,000 each to help create their Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the TWO (2) Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Pilot Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $10,000 at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $25,000 First Place Pilot prize and move forward to the Video Phase where you will create FIVE (5) additional Videos. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: PILOT – The TWO winners from the Pitch Phase will each create a 2-3 minute Pilot Video based upon their winning Pitches.

--Pilot Phase Payout: Winners of the Pilot Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $25,000 and 2nd place $10,000.

--Music: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audiosocket, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. You may use up to THREE total tracks per Video submission, and they can come from any of the three providers listed above. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The winner from the Pilot Phase will create FIVE (5) additional Videos for the LEGO Movie Maker app.

--Video Phase Payout: Winner of the Video Phase will earn an additional $35,000.

--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won up to $500 per place. Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.
