Working with the LEGO Group, we want YOU to go to Washington D.C. to celebrate the grand opening of the Innovation Wing at the National Museum of American History on July 1st, and create a 30 second time lapse video of LEGO Master Builders creating an 8’x14’ American Flag made entirely of LEGO bricks.

The Fourth of July is right around the corner - bet you could almost taste the grilled hot dogs and see the firecrackers lighting up the night sky. Now imagine spending the Fourth of July in D.C. - what's more patriotic than that?

Working with the LEGO Group, we want YOU to go to Washington D.C. to capture the grand opening of the Innovation Wing of the National Museum of American History on July 1st and create a 30 second time lapse video of LEGO Master Builders building an American Flag out of LEGO bricks. This is a ONE DAY event with a FAST turnaround, you'll be done with your Video before the grill gets hot!

Interested? Please see below for more details:

  • This is a one day event on July 1st from 10:00 AM - 07:00 PM.
  • The turnaround is FAST!!! You have just 24 HOURS to turn around your 30 second cut.
  • You will need to create one 30 second version set to patriotic music and one 30 second version without sound.
  • You will need to keep your crew lean - no more than five people.

The goal of this project is to create ONE (1) 30 second time lapse Video capturing LEGO Master Builders creating an American Flag out of LEGO bricks during the Smithsonian Grand Re-Opening on July 1st. This is a ONE DAY event with a FAST turnaround. You have just 24 HOURS to turn around two versions of your 30 second cut: one version set to patriotic music and one version without sound.

--Executional Mandatories: Please do not say “LEGOs” or refer to “LEGO” as a noun. Please always use “LEGO” as an adjective (i.e. LEGO bricks).

This project will be worth a total of $7,500 and consists of TWO Phases: a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $3,000 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $4,500. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: VIDEO – The winner of the Pitch Phase will create ONE (1) 30 second time lapse Video with two versions: one version set to patriotic music and one version without sound.

--Video Phase Payout: Winner of the Video Phase will earn the following prize: 1st place $4,500.
