Pitch us your BIG IDEA for a National Geographic TV Series that presents an entirely new spin and approach to a TV show about exploring the human body.

The human body has been a perennial subject on TV for the last 20 years, mainly in the nonfiction space.  Everyone has seen those scientific medical shows that all tackle the challenge of revealing the human body in the same way: “Here is Charlie… Charlie is an athlete…he can run very fast…what’s happening inside Charlie’s body when he runs is fascinating...”  And then they cut to some animation that launches you inside the body to take a closer look in CGI.

For a while, this type of educational entertainment was innovative and successful.  Now, it seems dated and derivative.  As the human race continues on its quest to learn more about ourselves, there’s clearly still interest and immense curiosity for how the human body works – it’s just a matter of breathing life into the storytelling format and coming up with a fresh new hook!

The goal of this project is to pitch a Concept (in 500 characters or less) for a National Geographic TV Series about the human body.  We’re looking for Concepts that are BIG in scale; something that would immediately plant itself in the collective consciousness and communal conversation of the country and world.  And keep in mind, we want to be able to tell what’s unique about your Concept right off the bat.  Ask yourself: how does your Concept both educate about the human body and capture the audience’s attention?  What about your show will make people notice and care?

National Geographic is open to:

  • Animation if it’s the right take.
  • A range of tones.  Doesn’t have to be serious.  Can be lighter or more comedic.

What to Avoid:

  • Ideas that have been done before many times over.  Think twice before submitting something that you’ve already seen!
  • Keep away from anything that is too medical, hospital, or doctor-oriented.
  • Keep away from extreme sports and sports injuries.

What to Submit

  • Title – Tell us the title of your show.  We want to visualize it on a billboard!
  • Logline – In 250 characters or less, give us a brief summary of your Concept.  We want this sentence to feel surprising and new, yet also simple to digest.
  • Concept – In 500 characters or less, tell us your big idea for a show about the human body.

Surprise us, please, blow us away, try something off the wall – no idea/budget is too big.  It can cross into real world activations and stunts as either a promotion or part of a show, and even A-list talent is on the table if you feel that their involvement can make or break a show concept.

This Project will be worth a total of $1,500 and consist of one Phase: Series Concept.  Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: SERIES CONCEPT – Submit your Series Concept convincing the Sponsor why your Concept should be selected, as outlined in the Background and Objectives above, using:

  • Title (REQUIRED) – Write down how you would title your Series.
  • Logline (REQUIRED) – In 250 characters or less, give us a Logline.
  • Concept (REQUIRED) – In 500 characters or less, tell us your Series Concept.

The three most compelling Series Concepts will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, each will receive $500.
