Gran Turismo Movie Drone Storytelling Concepts Project
Concept
06/09/23 - 06/13/23

Share concepts for clever, eye-catching, and inspiring drone videos that build on the narrative themes of GRAN TURISMO and its groundbreaking drone cinematography to support the movie's release on August 11!

GRAN TURISMO is a globe-trotting summer blockbuster that tells the story of Jann Mardenborough, a teenage gamer whose videogame skills qualify him to compete in an elite Racing Academy and become an actual, professional race car driver.  This movie is based on a true story, it hits theaters on August 11, and it's kind of got it all: an incredible cast of talented actors, unbelievable action sequences around the world, and a story with themes of wish fulfillment, determination, and the power of believing in yourself.  Directed by Neill Blomkamp, GRAN TURISMO also boasts stunning visuals on and off the racetrack, and seriously epic drone cinematography that's truly like nothing you've ever seen in theaters before.

Sony wants to celebrate the movie's release by creating some totally insane, thrilling, and inspiring drone videos for social media, but before we can get the cameras in the air, we need your concepts for the most fun, creative, and innovative takes on what those videos could be. Check out the GRAN TURISMO trailer and footage links in the  Background to get your engine revved, and then let us know what the coolest drone video a Tongal filmmaker could make would be and how it could be used on social media. Here's a few thought starters to lay out what we mean:

  • What if someone filmed a dog agility class on a drone like it was a scene from the movie?
  • What other true stories (real or made up) could benefit from a dynamic drone treatment – and how could it be told in an action-packed way that ties back to the movie?
  • Would you recreate a scene using homemade matchbox racecars?
  • What if you raced drones in the shape of an actual race track?

That should get you started, but we're really looking for your own creativity to come through, so don't stop there. Most of all, your concepts should tie back to the movie's focus on the racing, the true story element, the extreme endurance, and the high-octane action. While your concepts should be practically achievable – we want Tongal filmmakers to be able to produce these – that shouldn't limit your creativity beyond common sense call-outs, i.e. nothing that would require a full on stunt crew. Beyond that, we're not looking for car-focused or car-centric concepts (the movie's got plenty of that already), but you don't have to avoid cars entirely.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Pretty much everyone!

TONE: Fun, exhilarating, unique, celebratory, action-packed, attention-getting.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • CONCEPT (REQUIRED): Tell us your Concept using up to 250 characters. Your concept should detail what would happen in the video or content. Remember though, a concept is NOT a detailed script — it is a spark of inspiration. As always, concepts should be clever and engaging.

  • HELPFUL REFERENCE LINKS (Optional): Have you seen something else out there that you think makes for a helpful reference? Or a link that helps illustrate the idea you're submitting? Feel free to include a link to any existing content that'll be useful when trying to understand your big idea.

The five most compelling concept submissions will be selected and receive $300 each. Five additional concept submissions will be selected for Honorable Mention, and will receive $50 each. Submissions selected for Honorable Mention will not be used by the client, and not all submissions identified as Finalists will receive an Honorable Mention.
