Feed the Tongal Social Machine Project - Vlog Edition
Video
10/03/19 - 10/24/19

Be the voice of the Tongal Instagram account! Create short, informal vlog-style videos that speak to the writers, animators, editors, and filmmakers who follow Tongal on Instagram.

The creators who make up the Tongal community (read: YOU!) are the heart and soul of our platform, and Instagram is where our community spends much of their time getting inspired, sharing their own work, and connecting with their peers.

With the goal of creating more visibility for our community members and celebrating the diversity of talent on Tongal, this project seeks to identify at least 10 ready-to-post videos for Tongal’s Instagram channel. We’re seeking vlog-style videos that give us a window into your creative world in an authentic, relatable way. No need to get too slick here (unless you really want to!).

Go ahead, check out what we’ve already posted, then show us how you would bring your unique point-of-view to our feed and stories. We’ve included some video thought-starters in the ‘Background’ section, but you’re also welcome to submit any original video you think would be a great fit.

Pay special attention to the specs provided in the Executional Mandatories below to make sure your submission(s) meet them. If we select your submission, you'll get paid and we’ll credit you as the creator (and tag you if possible) when we post to Instagram!

EXPOSURE: Tongal’s Instagram channel

TARGET AUDIENCE: Entertainment-lovers, Tongalers, and filmmakers, editors, writers, and animators in general

TONE: Authentic, relatable, friendly, supportive, inclusive

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Instagram In-Feed posts - 1080x1080 or 1080×1350 (videos up to :60)
  • Instagram Stories - 1080x1920 (videos up to :15)
  • AVOID using the following terms in your submission:
    • Win / Won / Winning / Winner
    • Ad / Advertisement / Commercial
    • Prize
    • Contest

More than just the go-to place for writers, filmmakers, and animators to land real work and level up their creative skills, Tongal is also a multi-faceted and supportive global community. One place we love interacting with our creators is on Instagram. As we continue to grow the channel, our goal is to put more of our community members front-and-center.

We’d like for you to either get inspired by and extend the types of content we’re already posting to the channel OR help us establish new creative directions that will resonate with our core audience.

Submission Categories:
If you're unsure if you're on the right track, ask in the Project Forum!

Instagram In-Feed Content (1x1 or 4x5 videos up to :60)
Thought-starters:

  • Work in Progress: Introduce a clip of something you’re currently working on and explain the process or ask for feedback from other creators watching.
  • Watch Party: Introduce a clip of a completed original piece of content by you, or a clip from a project that you’ve completed on Tongal. Alternatively, record director’s commentary for a video you produced and talk about how it was made. For example: “Hi Tongalers! I’m Jessica and here’s a clip from my short film about square-dancing parrots. If you like it, you can watch the full video at the link in Tongal’s profile. If you have any questions about the film, leave a comment!”
  • Production Hacks + DIY Tips: Show off a technique or shortcut you use in your creative work.
  • Time-lapse videos of rigging, prop building, stop-motion animating, etc.
  • #SetLife: Share BTS vlogs from a video you're currently in production on. Show us your crafty, introduce us to your crew, show off your camera setup and tell us why it works for the shoot at hand, etc.
  • My First Greenlight: Tell us the story of your first Tongal project. How did you land it? What did you learn from it? How did you feel when you heard you had gotten it?

Instagram Stories Content (9x16 videos up to :15)

Thought-starters:

  • Creator Question of the Week: Introduce yourself and ask a question that our followers will answer. For example: “I’m Todd, a writer based in Austin. My favorite horror film is Shaun of the Dead (hey, that counts!). What’s your favorite scary movie?"
  • Who Got the Greenlight: Every Wednesday, we celebrate the most recent creators to get the greenlight on Tongal.
    • Submit a video intro and/or outro for the series. For example: “What’s up, Tongalers? I’m Melissa from LA and I’ve been Tongaling for the past 2 years. Today, I’m excited to share the creators who recently landed a project on Tongal. Let’s go!”
    • Submit a 5-10 second theme song / bumper featuring the words "Who Got the Greenlight?"

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your Social Asset submission.

  • VIDEO (REQUIRED): Submit a video to be featured on Tongal’s Instagram channel

  • SUBMISSION CATEGORY (REQUIRED): Select a category from the drop-down menu that best describes the submission you are uploading.
