Columbia Pictures 100th Anniversary Big Celebration Stunt Concepts Project
Concept
09/05/23 - 09/12/23

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures with big, awe-inspiring concepts for global stunts that get people talking about the iconic and impactful movies and tv shows Columbia Pictures has made.

Sony Pictures Entertainment is celebrating as Columbia Pictures marks its 100th year and is looking for big, bold, global ways to involve and excite fans. Your concepts should celebrate the anniversary of the studio and its most beloved titles across digital, social, and in real life executions that capture people’s attention, get them talking, sharing, engaging, and makes them genuinely excited about what comes next for Columbia and  Sony Pictures.

Specifically, we want to hear your best, boldest, and most celebratory concepts for three big, splashy global stunts: one at the beginning of 2024 to kickoff Columbia Pictures's 100th year; one in the middle of the year to keep fans engaged and excited; and one towards the end of 2024 to close the year-long celebration out. Your concept can span all three tentpoles, but you can also think about them as individual and unique events; we've created a drop-down menu so you can let us know whether your concept is for the kickoff, the middle point, the wrap-up, or all of the above. We're also giving you 500 characters so you can give us a little more detail around what these celebrations could look like and how they could be brought to life IRL and on social.

We're including a partial list of some of Columbia Pictures's most iconic films and TV shows to inspire you in the Background. Think about what iconic movie and TV moments you'd celebrate and how they could make a real-world splash, especially with global audiences. While involving talent is not off-limits, the best concepts should work without any stars attached. Beyond that, consider:

  • The studio only turns 100 once, how do you make the anniversary feel like a big birthday celebration?
  • What would get fans talking?
  • What would transcend language or cultural barriers (while still being executed in English)?
  • Is your concept built for a specific venue (e.g. a theater, stage, stadium, or park) or medium (e.g. a billboard, large-format screen, or PlayStation takeover)?
  • Why would your concept draw attention as a real-life stunt or activation, and how would you translate it to digital/social with the same sense of excitement?
  • How will global audiences get excited by your concept?

For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

EXPOSURE: Real-world/physical executions; Sony Pictures-owned and -operated channels (theatrical, home entertainment, animation, digital, Crunchyroll, PlayStation), social media, etc. If the concept/execution merits it, broadcast and global PR.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Movie enthusiasts, older generations (nostalgia), younger generations (discovery), cinephiles, pop culture fans.
  • Your concepts can be catered directly towards multiple target audiences or intended for one of these audiences depending on what makes the most sense for that concept/execution.

TONE/FEEL: Big, bold, attention-getting, splashy, exciting, celebratory, awe-inspiring, FUN.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • You must sign Sony's Submission Release Agreement, without edits, and submit it along with your concept. Greenlit creators will also need to sign Sony's Certificate of Results and Proceeds, which will be provided when greenlit.
  • Your concepts can highlight or build on specific moments from single movie or TV titles, or you can celebrate the breadth of Columbia's work.
  • Think about how your concept speaks to its audience: does it work broadly for multiple target audiences, or does it work better if it's targeted to one specific audience segment?
