Create an engaging 60-second Video with a 30-second cut-down that drives awareness for Colgate® ProClinical® by explaining its functional benefits via an emotional, human story.

Technology is at the center of our lives, no question, but technology alone isn’t everything. You might see a coffee machine has Bluetooth and 27 other “smart” features, and that’s impressive, but at the working end of any device is a living, breathing human. If they’re not considered at the outset, does all that advanced design really make it any better? The flash of features can blind you to the human story behind gadgets, and the electric toothbrush is no different. That’s why Colgate® ProClinical® is going to change the paradigm from putting tech at the center to putting people at the center… and you, Tongal, are going to help.

Colgate® is a trusted brand with 140 years of expertise in oral care, so it’s considered credible, innovative and authoritative, but beyond its clinical credentials it’s a family brand that’s optimistic, protective, and caring. Colgate® is a brand with a soul, and a desire to improve people’s lives. It believes that cleaning teeth is more than just a daily regimen; it’s the start of a new beginning, getting users ready for the day and for the life they want. Which brings us to Colgate® ProClinical® – an electric toothbrush that is revolutionary in its category, with users at the center of its design. Colgate® ProClinical® is tough on plaque, but still crafted to be gentle on gums, with sonic technology; unique, multidirectional movement; soft, thin-tipped bristles; and a slim, lightweight design.

The challenge now is to effectively and persuasively tie together the product story, of powerful and gentle cleaning, and the emotional human story, full of optimism and human connection. This is about being more than a just a functionally superior brush with great features; Colgate® ProClinical® wants to form an emotional connection with consumers.

The goal of this project is to create an engaging 60-second Video with a 30-second cut-down that drives awareness for Colgate® ProClinical® by explaining its functional benefits and tying them to an emotional, human story. This shouldn’t be a feature-laden spot full of CG graphics and CIA-style overlays; while it should establish ProClinical® as tough on plaque and gentle on gums, this is about brand awareness and creating a connection through relatable storytelling.

NOTE: Videos must be shot outside the United States. It's also important to note that ProClinical® is currently sold in the UK, Australia, Germany, and Israel, so this is a great opportunity for International Filmmakers!

*And, if you knock it out of the park, your Video could air on TV!*

--Key Marketing Messages:

  • Electric toothbrushes are known for powerful cleaning, with superior plaque removal versus a manual toothbrush.  Colgate® ProClinical® is both powerful and gentle.
  • Tough on Plaque. Gentle on gums.
  • 5x more plaque reduction* and 5x reduction in gum problems** (*at the gum line vs. a manual, flat-trim toothbrush, **vs. a manual, flat-trim toothbrush)
  • Colgate® ProClinical® combines unique, multi-directional brush strokes and soft, thin-tipped bristles for a superior clean with a gentle touch
  • It has an intelligent design that is slim, light-weight, and quiet.

--Target Audience:

  • This hits a broad demographic, so it should be broadly relatable. Generally, think manual toothbrush users that are looking to purchase an electric toothbrush. They believe taking care of their oral health is an important part of taking care of themselves just like eating well and exercising. They may have heard of electric toothbrushes at the dentist (had a conversation with dentist perhaps) or through a friend or family member that already has one, and are intrigued as a way to achieve better oral health. They have an appreciation for technology, especially tech that showcases smart simplicity. They want products that are intuitive and easy to use and make their lives easier - not more complicated. They are not into technology for technology-sake. When choosing brands/items they listen to others but ultimately make their own choice after doing the research themselves.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • Video must include full brand name (Colgate® ProClinical®) and product shot.
  • Videos should not make any direct comparison to competitors.

  • Optimistic. Caring. Trustworthy. Innovative. Solution-oriented.

--Exposure:

  • Based on final output, they will determine whether to use this video online and/or as a TV commercial.

--Product:

  • Colgate® ProClinical® toothbrushes will be provided and should be featured prominently in the Video.

This Project will be worth a total of $41,500 and consists of 3 Phases: an Idea Phase, a Pitch Phase, and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

NOTE: A Script and Headshots will be required in the Pitch Phase. There will also be two sets of revisions from the brand on the winning filmmaker’s Videos.

Additionally, since ProClinical® is currently sold in the UK, Australia, Germany, and Israel, this is a great opportunity for international Filmmakers.

PHASE 1: STORY – Tell us your Idea to drive awareness for Colgate® ProClinical® with an emotional human story in 140 characters or less. Remember, an Idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video.  As always, Ideas should be clever and engaging.  The winning Idea creators will receive $250 each and a 5% one-time residual payment for the Video based on their Idea. (That means if your winning Idea is the basis for the Video, you will receive $1,400 total) – see Video Phase Payout details for more information.

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on the winning Idea from the previous Phase using:

*NOTE: PLEASE SEE SPONSOR NOTES ON THE WINNING IDEAS BEFORE PITCHING.

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Script (REQUIRED): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (REQUIRED): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $18,000 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED the winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $23,000 (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Idea winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The winner of the Pitch Phase will create a 60-second Video along with a 30-second Cut-down. The 60-second Video and 30-second cut-down are both due at the close of the Video Phase. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

NOTE: This project will include an additional round of editorial revisions from Colgate®.

--Video Phase Payout: The Winner of the Video Phase will earn $23,000 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to the Idea winner, as applicable).

Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form.
