Create a 30-second video that shows teens all the unexpected, cool, and amazing things that can happen when you Choose Wildly with a new Jack Link’s Wild Snack Stick.

First you renamed the Snack Stick. Then you came up with hundreds of cool Ideas for videos showcasing the Snack Stick. And now it’s time to show the world – and especially its hungry teens – what the new Jack Link’s Wild Snack Stick is all about.

The Ideas for your Videos all take the rebellious antics of teenage life and blow up the choices made around those experiences. Part of being a teen is realizing that you have the freedom to NOT choose the same-old, status quo, safe, boring stuff. But remember, this target consumer isn’t the typical high school teen.  He is a bit more independent, marches to the beat of his own drum, and doesn’t need to conform, but also isn’t an outsider.

Think of your own wildest / happiest times: aren’t you glad no one was there to tell YOU to play it safe – or to go home and do your homework? Do you try something crazy and new, or go with the same-old, same-old? Do you sneak out your window for an adventure with your crush or stay in bed wondering ‘what if?’ Do you follow in your father’s sensible footsteps, or explore your wild side to its fullest extent? And wouldn’t you rather do all of this in a way that’s a bit different -- and just forget all the old cliché teen stories?  These are the questions our winning “Choose Wildly” ideas ask, and these are the questions your videos should explore and answer.

Jack Link’s isn’t just looking for videos that promote the idea of “Choosing Wildly,” they want you, the Tongal filmmaking community, to “Choose Wildly,” too. Read through the four winning Ideas below, pick which one you’re most excited to bring to life, and show us your wild sense of creativity and how you’d infuse your Video with that sense of excitement, adventure, and wildness.

IMPORTANT: You probably know of Jack Link’s broadcast spots with Sasquatch. Now forget all about him. Your Videos for Choose Wildly should be a new jumping off point. Leave Sasquatch and the prankster/practical joker hook to the annals of history, and give Jack Link’s Wild the smart, adventurous, fun, and thrilling start it deserves.

Have fun, and if you’re feeling it, be funny. But feel free to play around with the unlikely and the off-beat. Show how the world opens up to amazing new possibilities when Jack Link’s Wild is on the scene. One last piece of advice: don’t play down to this audience. The target consumer here is smart & cagey – they know what they know -- and they don’t like anyone to condescend to them. If you go funny, go smart rather than slapstick.  Cliché will be a turnoff to them.

Read on to the Project Objectives for the nitty gritty.

The goal of this project is to create three 30-second videos that show what happen when you “Choose Wildly” with Jack Link’s Wild. Each video will have a 15-second cutdown optimized for either Instagram or Snapchat, five stills, and a 2D endcard.

NOTE: Once the three Pitch winners are chosen, the Sponsor will confirm which platforms will be used for the 15-second cutdowns so you can optimize your framing accordingly (as Snapchat is 9:16).

Remember, the central thesis of each video should be the choice your protagonist is making – that’s how they embody the spirit of Jack Link’s Wild, and the sense of adventure, thrills, and intelligent humor will make each spot right for the target demo and the overall Jack Link’s brand.

THE IDEAS (in no particular order)

You must call out in your Pitch Treatment and in the title of your Pitch which Idea you’re Pitching on and how you’d bring it to life. We’ve also got robust Sponsor Notes on each Video; read them thoroughly as they’ll help you craft a Pitch towards exactly what the Sponsor’s looking for and exactly who the Jack Link’s Wild consumer is.

You can also view the winning Ideas here.

The Girl Next Door

A good girl who never goes anywhere becomes smitten over her hot neighbor who one night climbs to her window and sneaks her out for a wild party.

Sponsor Notes:

  • What if this were flipped, and it’s the girl who climbs the ladder and makes the invite?

  • We like this having a very clear and dramatic sense of choice – we should be able to point to the moment the choice is made, and see how their mutual attraction builds up to it in a cool and compelling way, then peak at the climactic moment when they finally sneak out. Think about the destination, too, as that will be your final payoff – this should be more wild, adventurous, and exciting than a cliché teen movie house party or a makeout spot in the woods.

  • Jack Link’s Wild should play a role in their initial attraction – don’t be afraid to get a little edgy or even explore a “is that a Wild Stick in your pocket, or..?” kind of humor, and bring Jack Link’s Wild back at the end when they reach their destination – or have another choice to make.

  • About that “stick in the pocket” joke – maybe the boy has one Jack Link’s Wild in his pocket…but the girl has two?

  • To ensure this idea remains as unique as the consumer himself, make sure casting doesn’t look like the stereotypical “head cheerleader” and “football captain.” Think unique, individual, interesting, diverse – but not extreme.

Life Choices
A father is having “the talk” with his son. As the teenager is eating, we flashback to Dad’s super lame past. It’s worse than you think.

Sponsor Notes:

  • This doesn’t have to be about “the talk” and we’d love to see a more visual interpretation of this Idea with less focus on dialogue and dad’s lame past and more on actions, style, personality, and above all, choice. We all know that tension of older generation vs new, and this independent consumer knows it well. Father/son has been done before, so make this exciting, new, and bring out the clear choices both father and son have made and are making to make them unique.

  • Think of this as insight into being independent and making choices that carve out your life and display who you are. Tension between the father and son is okay, but don’t get mean.

Tame is Lame

Doctor advocates choosing wildly to combat the rise of boredom among young men. Montage of men being helped in their “boring” situations.

Sponsor Notes:

  • Avoid the montage of boring men and push the line between ‘accessible’ and ‘crazy’ a little. Go wild in your Pitches – we’ll rope you back in if you go too far. The Doctor’s advice should be the opposite of what you’d expect, but not in a predictable way.

  • Play up the idea of “the unexpected” and push the envelope. We’re looking to this one for unique humor and pushing the boundaries of independence, a big attraction for our consumer.

Wild Moments in History

Throughout time, guys have bucked normality & chosen wildly. The first Everest climber, the first bungie jumper, the first fanny pack wearer.

Sponsor Notes:

  • As with the others, get creative and make the choices unique and unexpected. That means take out Everest and the bungie jumper and find something more independent, more relatable to the target consumer.

  • What are some things that seem like crazy ideas but actually weren’t?

  • Playing up to the target consumer, we’re in an era where people love being the first to do something and emphasize the first time something cool happens. Capture how the consumer is a trend-setter and doesn’t choose to be status quo.

PRE-PRODUCTION NOTE: This project includes a Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). This means you will be required to submit certain items for Approval before moving onto the Video Phase. The Approval items for this project are:

  • SCRIPT  – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.

  • HEADSHOT  – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.

IMPORTANT: No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

If you’re selected as a Pitch Winner, a Tongal producer will email you to help walk you through the Pre-Production and Approvals process.

NOTE: All three 30-second videos, three 15-second cutdowns, 5 stills and 2D endcard are due at the close of the Video Phase.  Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

--Key Marketing Messages:

  • When it comes to meat snacks, you have a choice. Jack Links’ Wild supports (and celebrates!) those who choose wildly.
  • Jack Link’s Wild is: bold and original, just like you. Why choose something boring and be like everyone else?
  • Jack Link’s Wild is bigger, better, and wilder than other meat sticks
  • Jack Link’s Wild brings great value at an affordable price point (remember that we’re trying to reach teens who live life on the edge – but also on a budget).
  • Jack Link’s Wild is: affordable and convenient, but never a compromise.

--Target Audience:
Primary: teen males who are:

  • Into hanging with friends, getting outside and finding new adventures,
  • …But at the same time they’re totally good with a chill night alone. It’s all about your choice.
  • A bit edgy, marching to the beat of their own drum – not concerned with fitting in or following convention.
  • The Jack Link’s Wild target would rather strike their own path and set their own trends. They may not know who James Dean is, but they would like him if they saw the movies…

--Executional Mandatories:

  • Make sure your Video presents at least one clear choice that centers around and/or builds to Jack Link’s Wild
  • Avoid Sasquatch and the prankster/practical joker approach of previous Jack Link’s campaigns
  • Your Videos should appeal to the target audience of teenage boys, but without being disrespectful of or alienating any other demographics
  • Your cutdowns should conform to the framing and tech specs of whichever platform (Instagram or Snapchat) the Sponsor chooses – that decision will be shared with the Pitch winner

--Tone:    Bold, edgy, cool, and uncompromising.

--Exposure:    Online video on YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat or Instagram.

--Product:    The Sponsor will provide product to the Pitch winner.

This Project will be worth a total of $49,000 and consists of four Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase and a Revisions Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in the video.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The three most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $8,500 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $6,500, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $9,500 First Place video prize. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION – The three Pitch Winners from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:

  • SCRIPT  – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.
  • HEADSHOT  – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.

No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner(s) will each create a preferred length in seconds (i.e. 30-seconds) Video based upon their winning Pitch.

NOTE: The 30-second videos, 15-second cut-downs, 5 stills and one 2D endcard per filmmaker are all due at the close of the Video Phase. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

After revisions are completed (see the Revisions Phase details for more information), the Judges will score the three winning Videos submitted by Pitch winners to determine the standings for the Video Phase. Remember, the three Pitch winners will receive prizes.

--Video Phase Payout:   Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place: $9,500; 2nd place: $7,500; and 3rd place: $6,500.
