Blue Point Brewing Company is looking for a tagline and campaign idea to bring their dockside ambience, laid-back mindset, and salty wit to beer-thirsty people across the country.
Blue Point Brewing is proud of their approachable line up of beers and of their small-town, sandy-booted, coastal heritage. They’ve established their craft-beer bonafides with their flagship Toasted Lager, and now they’re looking to make a name for themselves across the nation. They want to be the beer of choice for folks looking to unwind, pet the dog (if there’s one around), and take life a little less seriously.
To date, Blue Point has had a lot of fun with their humble origins: their brewery was founded, (and still thrives), on what was once an abandoned parking lot in Patchogue, New York -- a small coastal town in the middle of Long Island, but it’s only a short train ride away from the biggest city in the country.
We encourage you to take a look at Blue Point’s Facebook page, and at their Twitter feed, to get a feel for this great brand and their unique voice. You might also want to check out the Blue Point Brewing website, and their awesome YouTube page.
If you’re a craft beer fan, you may already be familiar with their flagship, Toasted Lager. While that beer will be the visual focus of the campaign you’re helping to create, please bear in mind that the campaign will focus as an introduction to the Blue Point brand. ...If you’re game, grab a six pack of Toasted Lager or any of the others, and consider the brewers’ original goal: to brew a great beer for their own consumption...and let it ride from there.
While you’re sipping, consider the fact that Blue Point has a healthy mix of males and females who enjoy their beers. Nice, right? Also, consider how their humble origins and self-deprecating, witty brand-voice can give them a distinct advantage in a product category that has been (in most cases) defined by grandiose irony & high-brow escapism. Well... Blue Point doesn’t want to rain on anybody’s parade, but good beer isn’t some cosmic reward for a life well-lived. It is, however, a great way to toast a day well-spent. Thing is, everyday people, everywhere, love a well-crafted beer -- and they love ’em everywhere: in their homes & backyards, at the picnic, at a street-fair... and sure, down by the dock. Good beer is one of life’s simple pleasures, and Blue Point is dedicated to the idea of keeping it that way.
Okay, now that you’re in the mood -- and before you open that second one...get your pen and grab that paper-napkin, and scratch out the tagline that will launch this great brand’s greatest ever, nation-wide campaign.
We’ll give you 50 characters to give us your Tagline for the campaign that will bring Blue Point Brewing to the world. You don’t have to use every one of those characters, but give us the line(s) that will make this campaign bloom in living rooms, taverns, and beer-gardens of every kind, all over the country.
Then we’ll give you an additional 500 characters to give us a Campaign Description, telling us how this tagline will come alive as a full-fledged campaign. It’s up to you how to bring that home: you can describe how various aspects of the campaign will take shape (video executions, event marketing, billboards); or, you can describe the campaign in more general, visual or verbal terms.
Share whatever you can that will make it spring to life for our friends at Blue Point. Sell us your vision. If it’s a strong idea, 500 characters should give you plenty of runway...
Here are a couple of key thoughts and images to get you started:
1) We’ve included some recent print ads Blue Point has run to give you an idea of what they’ve been all about. Check them out under the ASSETS tab. Don’t copy them -- but do let these executions inform your suggestions for the way forward.
2) Consider thinking about images and letting these help you find just a few of the exact right words. One of Blue Point’s strongest associations is coastal imagery: the sea and the land by the sea. How can they take that imagery inland?
3) Blue Point also regularly features their trademark buoy (featured in their logo) as part of their imagery. We thought it might be helpful for you to know what that buoy represents to Blue Point. Here’s how they describe its meaning: "Buoys represent freedom, indicating the moment where we cross from charted waters into new adventures and new territory."
4) Think about how to pull off the trick of uniting the ideas of truly great local-flavor, and daily enjoyment. People have always loved to fantasize about deserted islands, but Blue Point is a beer you can enjoy any day, any-time, anywhere: just add some good fresh food, a few pals, and that dog who lives to chase a Frisbee...
5) Think about the idea of breaking free from a hectic, day-to-day routine -- but also about being able to break free easily, in the here and now...with Blue Point.
6) LAST BUT PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: Remember that Blue Point wants to stay true to their roots. They’re a craft beer, and proud of it. Blue Point was founded by a couple guys who wanted to make good beer and have fun innovating new tastes that were still...ya know...beer. Same company. Same simple goals.
