Blue Beetle Movie Release Social Video Project

Video
08/03/23 - 08/10/23

Celebrate DC Super Hero Jaime Reyes and the upcoming theatrical release of Blue Beetle on August 18th by creating an entertaining :30 social video designed for TikTok and IG Reels that hypes audiences up to experience the movie in theaters.

Blue Beetle tells the origin story of Jamie Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, a relatable underdog who, with the help of his family and the powers of the Scarab, steps up to claim a power and a purpose that he didn't ask for, and that will forever alter his destiny. Blue Beetle is infused with swagger, humor, and action for a refreshing, fun-filled take with likeable, charming characters that upend superhero tropes and appeal to broad audiences. It pairs humor with a touching family story and plenty of kick*ss action.

Jaime, the Reyes family, and Blue Beetle are poised to be massive crowd favorites, but as DC's Blue Beetle is a new franchise for movie audiences, Warner Bros. wants to support the release with fan-made videos on TikTok and IG Reels. Blue Beetle is a dynamic film with action and heart, and a storyline that emphasizes the power of family, but with snappy humor and action. Warner Bros. is looking to celebrate the movie with eight :30 videos for TikTok and IG Reels. If you have more than one awesome video idea, we encourage you to submit multiple different pitches, since there's a chance Warner Bros. could greenlight multiple video ideas from the same creator.

The goal here is to create a short and entertaining social video that generates excitement about the movie and resonates with fans. While you can work off of the movie's themes, we're expecting to see your best and most fun creative takes that feel natural for social, and everything should be interpreted through that viral lens.

For example, maybe your video is showing you and your family doing a GRWM (get ready with me) for the movie premiere. Maybe it's a Follow-Me as if you were Blue Beetle. You could be an incredible DIY crafter showing audiences how to create a Blue Beetle cosplay, or you could play with the idea of the Scarab, the ancient alien biotech that chooses Jaime as its symbiotic host and gives him his incredible powers.

Perhaps you're thinking of a fun live-action approach that uses clever transitions or surprising edits. Maybe you use stop-motion animation or effects to bring some Blue Beetle-esque action to an everyday situation. Steer away from any boring, couch potato ideas; as the Scarab tells Jaime in the official trailer, "Whatever you can imagine, I can create" – and we're looking for you to do the same here.

Your video should feel native to the TikTok and Instagram Reels platforms, and lean into the trends and styles that would organically come across your "For You" page while still being tonally in line with the Blue Beetle voice and tone. Below are some thought starters for different trends that you can explore, but note that if you have other video ideas that feel native and aren't on this list, WB still wants to hear about them!

  • Family Get-ready-with-me style video for the movie premiere
  • Follow-me/day in the life as if you were Blue Beetle
  • DIY crafts around the Scarab, the Blue Beetle armor, or other elements from the Blue Beetle universe
  • Cosplay transformations to 'become' the Blue Beetle
  • Clever interpretations on the theme of "Grab your movie ticket" – does the ticket transform to the Scarab? to a blue beetle? to something else entirely? Does it turn you into a superhero?

These thought-starters shouldn't limit your creativity but should just be jumping-off points for your own clever, creative, and wildly watchable videos. Please note: You CANNOT use any stock footage and/or imagery in your concepts.

We also encourage you to submit an optional proof-of-concept video that illustrates how your idea would come to life. WB has provided this folder of assets you can use for your proof-of-concept as well as in your final videos, if greenlit. Your proof of concept should be designed for TikTok, shot in a 9x16 aspect ratio, and up to :30. You can even create your proof-of-concept video in the TikTok app itself. Feel free to include links to any existing social videos (they don't have to be your own) that represent the style you'd be aiming for.

For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES: Each greenlit creator will create one video with two delivery versions:

  • One :30 social video (9x16)
    • Final deliverables will include one version with an endcard and one version without an end card
    • End card will be provided by WB

TIMELINE: HERE. Please note this project will move quickly!

EXPOSURE: We anticipate content will be used on the platforms listed below, but if casting talent, please be sure your talent reviews the required Talent Release, as it is not limited to these platforms. You should also review the platform best practices page.

  • Warner Bros., Blue Beetle, and DC social media (TikTok and Instagram, especially Reels)

TARGET AUDIENCE: Broad movie-going audiences, family audiences, superhero and DC fans, Latino audiences

TONE: Action-packed, fun, engaging, cool; relatable and authentic to the TikTok platform.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Make sure to check out the OFFICIAL RULES of the project.
  • Must mention the movie's release date, August 18, and encourage audiences to see it in theaters.
  • You may use music, sfx, images, clips, or any other assets provided by WB in this folder. These are the only assets approved for use, and you may NOT use trending audio from TikTok or Instagram, any library music or sound effects (including from Tongal's partner libraries), or any stock footage and/or imagery.
  • If greenlit, you *might* be asked by WB to post your video to your own social channels, so we're asking for your current social media handles in your submission. However, without explicit permission, you may NOT post the video yourself.
  • Your ideas should NOT be aimed at kids and MUST be geared towards an older audience (preferably 13+).
  • Your videos should ALWAYS have sound – TikTok is a sound-on platform – but you MAY NOT use any audio beyond what you naturally record or soundtrack music cues that Warner Brothers will provide.
  • All graphics and the most important visual content should stay within TikTok's safe zones.
  • You MAY NOT include any logos or other branding within your video, including mentions of other superheroes or superhero franchises
  • Text can be incorporated but is not required.
  • Assets should feel contemporary and adult-facing, while still remaining family-friendly.
  • If organic to your video concept, mention the great cast – see more in the Background.

Blue Beetle's central through-line is Jaime, a charismatic, relatable young man with swagger and humor with a tight-knit family. These characters, and the cast who bring them to life, are a big selling point for the movie.

This is the big-screen debut for Blue Beetle, so let's make it awesome.
