Create a Series of short videos showing fans how to make delicious recipes inspired by the Best Fiends mobile game.  Think “Tasty” in terms of tone/format, but with your own creative spin on it!

All was quiet in the land of Minutia... until a meteor struck Mount Boom, and the slugs awoke, devouring everything in their path!  Our heroes – the Best Fiends – had to rise up and fight against the ravenous slugs.

Welcome to the world of the Best Fiends – mythical, mischievous little creatures who, in a desperate race against slime, must build a courageous team of friends to help take down the army of Slugs that has been rampaging across the land.  If you haven’t played the mobile game Best Fiends yet, you probably should – it’s a stunning and addictive blend of puzzles and adventures with RPG-style character building, and it’s got a huge fan-base, with millions of players around the world.

Within the game, players collect the many different little Fiends, leveling them up to discover special powers and unique personalities.  To connect with fans in an exciting, new way, the Best Fiends team is asking YOU for a Series of short Recipe Videos inspired by the Best Fiends universe.  Ideally we’re looking for fans who are familiar with the Best Fiends world and have played the game before!

WHAT TO SUBMIT:

REQUIRED IN YOUR PITCH:

  • Concept
  • Treatment
  • Proposed Series Timeline
  • We want to know how long it will take you to complete an episode or a batch of episodes.  No need to go into great detail on this other than a simple delivery schedule.
  • Proposed Budget per Episode (*See Budget Template in the Assets Tab)
  • Instead of us dictating your budgets, we’re looking for you to let us know the amount you need in order to execute your Series.  Please provide explicitly how much you need per episode.
  • Your budget proposal is subject to approval if your Pitch is selected.
  • Please consider the most economical way to produce your Series.

Check out more details below!

The goal is to create a fun and engaging Series of 10 short Recipe Videos that demonstrates creative ways to make Best Fiends-themed food or drinks, specifically focusing on the Best Fiends universe.  We want to show fans that making these Best Fiend recipes is simple & straightforward, totally doable, and an enjoyable activity for kids and adults alike.

Check out this past Best Fiends recipe video, “Ever Taste a Kwincy Onigiri?” as a reference / jumping off point.  It represents one potential approach, but it’s not the ONLY direction that is open to you.  While the Best Fiends team does want you to use overhead shots and incorporate all recipe steps in a clear and concise way, they are open to different creative styles.  For example, on-screen talent or dialogue is not necessary.  Here’s another reference of a “Tasty” video to show you a different potential approach that does not use on-screen talent or dialogue.  We’re looking for your ability to execute a repeatable format in the fun and playful tone of Best Fiends.  Also, make sure you take into account the set-up or environment in which you’re putting together the recipe.  We fully encourage you to also be inspired by themes such as holiday cooking, back to school, or Halloween.

You will have freedom to come up with the recipe ideas yourself, but we’ll also have a list of suggestions to help.

Each Video should be approximately 90 to 120 seconds long, though you have flexibility to make something a little longer or shorter, and each Video should be accompanied by a cut-down teaser up to 15 seconds in length and 2 (two) still images.  Please note: the :15 cut-down teaser should not be a fast-paced version of the entire recipe, but rather a quick glimpse/teaser at what is going to be made.

PILOT PHASE NOTE: For the Pilot Phase, one filmmaker will be selected to create a Video. There will be pre-production before the Pilot AND before the Series.  The filmmaker will be required to deliver a 15 second cut-down, 2 (two) still images, and 1 intro/outro cards as well for the Pilot.  All remaining episodes in the Series will be modeled and formatted after the Pilot episode.

PRE-PRODUCTION NOTE: This project includes a Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?), but no specific approvals. After the Pitch Winner is selected, there will be a Pre-Production call to discuss and align on the creative approach, and distribute all necessary audio and visual assets required for production, after which the Best Fiends team will give a greenlight for commencement of the Video Phase.

IMPORTANT: You may not begin shooting your Pilot or Series until you receive a greenlight from the Best Fiends team. If you begin shooting your Pilot or Series during the Pre-Production, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense), so please don’t jump the gun.

--Deliverables Due:

In Pilot Phase:

  • 1 Video (approximately :90-2:00)
  • :15 Cut-Down
  • 2 Still Images
  • 1 Bookended intro/outro card

In Series Phase:

  • 9 Total Videos (approximately :90-2:00 each)
  • 9 Total Teaser Cut-Downs (approximately :15)
  • 18 Still Images (2 images per episode)
  • 9 Bookended intro/outro cards

--Executional Mandatories:

  • The Best Fiends team will provide you with assets of any characters to reference and incorporate in your video.
  • The Best Fiends team will also provide sound & music assets as well, and if possible, you should avoid incorporating outside music.  If you need to supplement with other music, please refer to our music libraries outlined below.
  • They may also provide an Intro and End Card with gameplay and/or a call-to-action to download the game, and we will want to work with you on these items.

--Target Audience:

  • Primary Audience: Current players (for engagement & re-engagement)
    • Best Fiends players are 60% female, mostly 25-45, and their social audience is also predominantly female. They have a strong following in families, the LGBT community, lifestyle artists, make-up, beauty, and fashion. Players are culturally diverse and global.
  • Secondary: Future players (acquisition & affinity)

--Tone: Think “Minions” in tone – fun and funny, subversive yet sweet, playful and positive.

--Exposure & Format:

  • The content will live primarily on YouTube, and likely within the Best Fiends app itself as organic content intended for engaged players of Best Fiends (but please do not structure your series like an advertisement).  Cut-downs and still images are for social channels such as Facebook & Instagram.
  • As this is not a proper advertisement, you have flexibility with your Video’s duration.  If it needs to be a bit longer or shorter, don’t be confined by :90-2:00.

This Project will consist of 3 main Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Pilot Phase, and a Series Phase.  Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH – Submit your Pitch convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute the Best Fiends Recipe Video Series.  Please be sure to provide your vision for the Pilot AND ability to execute the entirety of the Series.

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute the Pilot and Series.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work.  Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in your Pilot.  Please focus on the pilot and how you would structure it.  This format will then be repeated across all the other videos in the Series.
  • Budget (REQUIRED): Tell us your budget per episode, and please use the template we’ve provided in the Assets tab.
  • Series Timeline (REQUIRED): Tell us your timeline for producing 9 episodes (not including the pilot).  No need to go into great detail – we just need to know how long it will take you to produce an episode or a batch of episodes.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the videos you intend to create.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The 1 (one) most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, and after a period of budget negotiation, will continue on to create their Pilot and Series.

For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch  video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION – The 1 (one) winner from the Pitch Phase will enter into a brief pre-production period consisting of a discussion with the brand to make sure everyone is aligned on the direction of the Pilot before beginning Pilot production.

PHASE 3: PILOT – The 1 (one) winner from the Pitch Phase will create an approximately :90-2:00 Pilot based upon their winning Pitch, plus a :15 cut down, 2 still images, and 1 intro/outro cards.

PHASE 4: PRE-PRODUCTION – After the 1 (one) winner’s Pilot is approved, then they will enter into another pre-production period before beginning Series production.  Again, this is to make sure all details are ironed out before jumping into a series of episodes all based on the format of the Pilot.

PHASE 5: SERIES – The 1 (one) winner will create the remaining 9 episodes of the Series, including 9 :15 cut-downs, 18 still images (two per video), and 9 intro/outro cards.
