Create a Series of short videos showing fans how to draw the mischievous little creatures known as “Fiends” from the Best Fiends mobile game.

All was quiet in the land of Minutia... until a meteor struck Mount Boom, and the slugs awoke, devouring everything in their path!  Our heroes – the Best Fiends – had to rise up and fight against the ravenous slugs.

Welcome to the world of the Best Fiends – mythical, mischievous little creatures who, in a desperate race against slime, must build a courageous team of friends to help take down the army of Slugs that has been rampaging across the land.  If you haven’t played the mobile game Best Fiends yet, you probably should – it’s a stunning and addictive blend of puzzles and adventures with RPG-style character building, and it’s got a huge fan-base, with millions of players around the world.

Within the game, players collect the many different little Fiends, leveling them up to discover special powers and unique personalities.  To connect with fans in an exciting, new way, the Best Fiends team is asking YOU for a Series of short Videos demonstrating how to draw each of their Fiend characters!

WHAT TO SUBMIT:

REQUIRED IN YOUR PITCH:

  • Concept
  • Treatment
  • Artist Portfolio (link is OK)
  • Proposed Series Timeline
    • We want to know how long it will take you to complete an episode or a batch of episodes.  No need to go into great detail on this other than a simple delivery schedule.
  • Proposed Budget per Episode
    • Instead of us dictating your budgets, we’re looking for you to let us know the amount you need in order to execute your Series.  Please provide explicitly how much you need per episode.
    • Your budget proposal is subject to approval if your Pitch is selected.
    • Please consider the most economical way to produce your Series.
    • Feel free to use the Budget Template we’ve provided in the Assets Tab!

Timeline of Pitch Phase & Pilot Production:

Pitch phase: 6/22-7/5

Pitch selected by brand: 7/14

Pilot Production: 7/19-7/26

Series Production TBD

Check out more details below!

The goal is to create a fun and engaging Series of short Videos that demonstrates how to draw 31 different Fiends from the mobile game Best Fiends.  We want to show fans that drawing these characters is easy, totally doable, and an enjoyable activity for kids and adults alike.

The Best Fiends team is completely open-minded on illustration style and medium, as long as it’s simple enough for anyone to get involved, so be creative in your pitch, and feel free to consider anything from chalk to charcoal!  They’re also open on the format of the video, and on-screen talent or dialogue is not necessary.  If you have multiple drawing styles in mind – not to worry! – feel free to pitch how you might incorporate different drawing styles throughout the series.  Also, there might be an opportunity to greenlight more than one pitch into production.

Each Video should be approximately 60 to 90 seconds long, though you have flexibility to make something a little longer or shorter, and each Video should be accompanied by a cut-down up to 15 seconds in length and 1 (one) still image.

PILOT PHASE NOTE: For the Pilot Phase, one filmmaker will be selected to create a Video demonstrating how to draw a character. There will be pre-production before the Pilot AND before the Series.  The filmmaker will be required to deliver a 15 second cut-down and 1 (one) still image as well for the Pilot.  All remaining episodes in the Series will be modeled and formatted after the Pilot episode.

PRE-PRODUCTION NOTE: This project includes a Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?), but no specific approvals. After the Pitch Winner is selected, there will be a Pre-Production call to discuss and align on the creative approach, and distribute all necessary audio and visual assets required for production, after which the Best Fiends team will give a greenlight for commencement of the Video Phase.

IMPORTANT: You may not begin shooting your Pilot or Series until you receive a greenlight from the Best Fiends team. If you begin shooting your Pilot or Series during the Pre-Production, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense), so please don’t jump the gun.

--Deliverables Due:

In Pilot Phase:

1 Video (approximately :60-:90)

:15 Cut-Down

1 Still Image

In Series Phase:

30 Total Videos (approximately :60-:90 each)

30 Total Cut-Downs (approximately :15)

30 Still Images

Additional Videos Note: There is a chance that the Best Fiends Team may roll out new characters during the Series Phase, in which case there may be an opportunity to produce additional videos.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • The Best Fiends team will provide you with assets of any characters to reference and incorporate in your video.
  • The Best Fiends team will also provide sound & music assets as well, and if possible, you should avoid incorporating outside music.  If you need to supplement with other music, please refer to our music libraries outlined below.
  • They may also provide an End Card with gameplay and/or a call-to-action to download the game, but you will not have not have to create these.

--Target Audience:

  • Primary Audience: Current players (for engagement & re-engagement)
    • Best Fiends players are 60% female, mostly 25-45, and their social audience is also predominantly female. They have a strong following in families, the LGBT community, lifestyle artists, make-up, beauty, and fashion. Players are culturally diverse.
  • Secondary: Future players (acquisition & affinity)

--Tone:

Think “Minions” in tone – fun and funny, subversive yet sweet, playful and positive.

--Exposure & Format:

The content will live primarily on YouTube, and likely within the Best Fiends app itself as organic content intended for engaged players of Best Fiends (but please do not structure your series like an advertisement).  Cut-downs and still images are for Facebook & Instagram.

As this is not a proper advertisement, you have flexibility with your Video’s duration.  If it needs to be a bit longer or shorter, don’t be confined by :60-:90.

This Project will consist of 3 main Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Pilot Phase, and a Series Phase.  Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH – Submit your Pitch convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute the Best Fiends How to Draw Video Series.  Please be sure to provide your vision for the Pilot AND ability to execute the entirety of the Series.

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute the Pilot and Series.
  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in your Pilot.  Please focus on the pilot and how you would structure it.  This format will then be repeated across all the other videos in the Series.
  • Artist Portfolio (REQUIRED): Link or attachment is fine.  We want to see your skill as an artist and how that ladders up to the style in which you plan to draw the Fiends.
  • Series Timeline (REQUIRED): Tell us your timeline for producing 30 episodes (not including the pilot).  No need to go into great detail – we just need to know how long it will take you to produce an episode or a batch of episodes.
  • Budget (REQUIRED): Tell us your budget per episode.  Feel free to also use the template we’ve provided in the Assets tab.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work.  Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the videos you intend to create.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The one (1) most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, and after a period of budget negotiation, will continue on to create their Pilot and Series.

For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch  video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION – The one (1) winner from the Pitch Phase will enter into a brief pre-production period consisting of a discussion with the brand to make sure everyone is aligned on the direction of the Pilot before beginning Pilot production.

PHASE 3: PILOT – The one (1) winner from the Pitch Phase will create an approximately :60-:90 Pilot based upon their winning Pitch, plus a :15 cut down and 1 still image.

PHASE 4: PRE-PRODUCTION – After the one (1) winner’s Pilot is approved, then they will enter into another pre-production period before beginning Series production.  Again, this is to make sure all details are ironed out before jumping into a series of episodes all based on the format of the Pilot.

PHASE 5: SERIES – The one (1) winner will create the remaining 30 episodes of the Series, including 30 :15 cut-downs and 30 still images (one per video).
