AT&T is seeking unique and original Short Films from Professional Filmmakers and Student Filmmakers to premiere live at the AT&T Developer Summit in Las Vegas in January 2017, and possibly air on the AT&T AUDIENCE Network. Submit your Short Film now!

Calling all Professional Filmmakers and Student Filmmakers for SHORT FILM SUBMISSIONS!


Have you created the next great Short Film? Do you have a distinctive filmmaking voice and vision? Did you just wrap on an awesome action/adventure, comedy, documentary, drama, experimental, horror, sci-fi, or thriller?


Well, here’s your big break:  AT&T is looking for completed Short Films they can possibly feature on the AT&T AUDIENCE Network. That’s right - SIX winning filmmakers will earn cash money (dolla billz y’all!). And, if that wasn’t enough, select winning filmmakers will be flown out to The Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to meet with industry execs and showcase their work during the 2017 AT&T Developer Summit… “Vegas Baby, Vegas!”


Whether you’re a Professional Filmmaker or a Student Filmmaker, we’re seeking compelling, groundbreaking, and unique Short Films of any genre that are under 10 minutes long. We are looking to help bring your original and creative voice to the world.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • There is NO FEE for submitting a film to this Competition.
  • Submissions will be accepted through November 18, 2016, or once 300 submissions are received, whichever comes first.
  • "Student Filmmaker" means a person who is at time of entry and winner selection a current undergraduate (4-year or 2-year), graduate, doctoral, or postdoctoral student at an accredited college or university. Entries will also be accepted from students who recently graduated during the 2016 calendar year.
  • "Professional Filmmaker" means a non-Student Filmmaker; or all other entrants.
  • Only original works are accepted. Submitting parties must hold complete ownership and rights of submitted product.
  • One submission per entrant.
  • We are seeking films in action/adventure, comedy, documentary, drama, experimental, horror, sci-fi, and thriller.
  • All films must be shorter than 10 minutes in duration (including credits and titles)
  • Films must be shot at a minimum 1080p HD resolution.
  • Submitted work must have been completed after January 1, 2014.
  • Films with prior commercial distribution or broadcast within the U.S. are NOT eligible to submit. In the case of small non-commercial, non-publicized showings, The Sponsor reserves the right to waive this rule.
  • The top three Finalists from the Professional Filmmaker category and the First Place Student Filmmaker must be available to attend AT&T Developer Summit on January 3-4, 2017 in Las Vegas. Airfare and hotel accommodations will be provided by the Sponsor for one member from each team.


What Else You Need To Know:

  • Judging will be based on four categories:
    • Creativity & Originality
    • Entertainment Value
    • Character
    • Production Value
  • All entries must be completed and fully finished (no rough cuts!).
  • This project is open to residents of the continental U.S. and District of Columbia, age 18 or over (except Alabama and Nebraska residents must be at least nineteen (19) years old at time of entry and Mississippi residents must be at least twenty-one (21) years old at time of entry).
  • If your Short Film is not selected as a winner, you will retain all rights to your entry. If your Short Film is selected as a winner, all rights to your entry will transfer back to you upon completion of the screening window on the AT&T AUDIENCE Network.


The Reward:


PROFESSIONAL FILMMAKERS:          

The top Three Professional Filmmakers will be flown to Las Vegas for the 2017 AT&T Developer Summit where the Grand Prize, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place prizes will be awarded as follows:

Grand Prize: $20,000 USD and a meeting with the AT&T AUDIENCE Network

2nd: $5,000 USD

3rd: $3,000 USD


STUDENT FILMMAKERS:                    

The One top Student Filmmaker will be travelled to Las Vegas for the 2017 AT&T Developer Summit. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st:  $10,000 USD and a meeting with AT&T AUDIENCE Network

2nd: $3,000 USD

3rd: $2,000 USD

The goal of this project is to award SIX creative, entertaining and original Short Films from Professional Filmmakers and Student Filmmakers, THREE of the Professional Films will premiere live at the AT&T Developer Summit at The Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on January 3-4, 2017, and all SIX films could possibly air on the AT&T AUDIENCE Network.


Films can be of any genre including action/adventure, comedy, documentary, drama, experimental, horror, sci-fi, and thriller. You are only allowed to submit one (1) film, and it must be ten (10) minutes or less (including credits). We are accepting films by Professional or Student Filmmakers that are residents of the continental United States and the District of Columbia.

A “Student” Filmmaker means a person who is at time of entry and winner selection a current undergrad, grad, doctoral, or postdoc student at an accredited college or university. Entries will also be accepted from students who recently graduated during the 2016 calendar year.


A “Professional” Filmmaker means a non-student filmmaker; or all other entrants.


--Final Deliverables: 

  • Filmmakers will need to deliver a Broadcast Master (HD 1080i or 720p  16x9 with frame rate at 29.97/59.94), a Premiere and Edit Master (1080p), a 4K Master, as well as all raw footage, image assets and editing project files. You can see a full list of the deliverables and all their specifications in the Assets Tab.
  • In addition to delivering a 1080p master, you will also need to deliver in a film format that can be played in the theater in Las Vegas, so DCP, QuickTime, Blu-ray, or DVD.

This Project will be worth a total of $43,000 and consists of one (1) phase: a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the AT&T OFFICIAL RULES.

 

 

PHASE 1: VIDEO 

Professional Filmmakers and Student Filmmakers are invited to enter a Short Film submission based on the Project Objective and the Entry Requirements. The Judges will score all Short Film submissions and the SIX (6) highest scoring Short Films will receive prizes.

Per the Sponsor, judging will be based on these four categories:

--Music:   Tongal has partnered with two premiere music providers: Epidemic Sound and Jingle Punks. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above. 


Tongal members interested in a custom music solution for your project are invited to connect with SCORE A SCORE. They specialize in the creation of custom music, on-demand. Their business model is based on a "name your price" system, so you can tell them what your budget is, and they will work with you to create a deal configuration that will work within the discussed parameters. If you are selected as a winner, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.


--Marketing Materials:   If you are selected as a winner, you may be asked to provide hi-resolution stills from the film and hi-res poster artwork, along with any additional marketing materials requested by the Sponsor.


1. The Video MUST not exceed 10 minutes in length. Preferred format for upload to the Tongal website is HD 720p 16x9. Acceptable file formats are .mov, .avi, .mp4, .wmv. Acceptable codecs are H.264 (MP4), MPEG-4, H.263, MPGV, WMV, DivX. Should you win, you will also be required to provide a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec


2. Unless provided otherwise, all work must be your own original creation and free of any copyrighted material. You shall provide detailed information of your work regarding the source, the creator and background information as requested by Tongal.


3. In the event you utilize any third party materials, such as music provided by a third-party music provider not provided by Tongal, you must obtain full written license and consent from the owner of such third party materials and provide such license and consent forms to Tongal.

 

4. BY SUBMITTING A VIDEO ENTRY, YOUR SUBMISSION IMMEDIATELY BECOMES THE SOLE PROPERTY OF TONGAL OR ITS ASSIGNEES – SEE AT&T OFFICIAL RULES FOR MORE DETAILS ABOUT OWNERSHIP OF ENTRIES. YOU MAY NOT PUBLICLY SHARE OR PUBLISH YOUR SUBMISSION IN ANY MANNER AND YOU MAY NOT POST OR UPLOAD YOUR SUBMISSION TO ANY WEBSITE OR VIDEO HOSTING SITE (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE OR VIMEO), WITHOUT THE PRIOR EXPRESS WRITTEN CONSENT OF TONGAL. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS REQUIREMENT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR ENTRY IN THE PROJECT.


5. Tongal members who submit Short Films and are not selected as winners will retain all rights to their entries.


6. Submissions cannot contain any profanity, offensive language, nudity or otherwise objectionable material, the determination of which is solely at the discretion of Sponsor.


7. Submissions must not portray Sponsor in a negative way, the determination of which will solely reside with Sponsor.


8. Videos must be in the English language or subtitled.


9. Limit 1 submission per member, per Phase.


10. Submitters will need to select either "Professional" or "Student" from the dropdown menu when submitting.


11. Submitters will have a chance to opt in (or out) of receiving featured communications from the Sponsor when submitting.


12. This Contest is open only to legal residents and physically located in one (1) of the fifty (50) United States or District of Columbia and who are at least eighteen (18) years old at time of entry (except Alabama and Nebraska residents must be at least nineteen (19) years old at time entry and Mississippi residents must be at least twenty-one (21) years old at time of entry). 


13. In the event that fewer than 50 videos are received, the Sponsor reserves the right to repost the contest for up to fourteen (14) days at their discretion.


14. The judging criteria stated in the AT&T OFFICIAL RULES will apply to this Project


15. In addition to the standard Tongal W-9, Winner Affidavit, and IP Assignment, winning Video creators MUST also provide Talent, Location, Music (or other) Releases for all assets appearing in their winning Videos, as well as a photograph/headshot  OR copy of a photo ID for all On-camera Talent releases. You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec to claim your prize.
