Tyrrell moved to Los Angeles to attend USCs prestigious Film Production Program. Her senior year, Tyrrell was one of four students awarded a thesis film. The result, "Different," won the Rhode Island International Film Festival Grand Prize for Student Film, as well as playing at festivals around the globe and being called a "great, little subversive film" by one of her heroes, Director Michael Lehmann "Heathers". Tyrrell then worked for Academy Award-winning Producer Rob Fried and directed and/or wrote over 20 short films for his digital media channel, Feeln. Her independently produced 35mm short film "Threnody" won several best short awards in 2011. Tyrrell was a finalist for the HBO DGA Directing Fellowship in 2012, a finalist for the Twilight Storytellers Competition in 2015, and she is currently an Alliance of Women Directors TV Shadowing Program Fellow. She has directed over 50 shorts, documentaries, webisodes, and commercials for companies like Hallmark, Google, and FEARnet.
