Shequeta L. Smith is an award-winning writer and director dedicated to telling bold, character-driven stories that center underrepresented voices. Her viral short film The Takeover, exploring the online dating experiences of Black women, has amassed over 400,000 views. Her comedy short Dick Control screened at over twenty film festivals and won five, celebrated for its fearless wit and social commentary. In 2019, Shequeta was selected from over 4,000 writers worldwide for Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Impact screenwriting incubator, where she wrote a big-budget, four-quadrant feature screenplay, Taking the Throne, in just eight weeks. A former Coca-Cola sales executive, Shequeta is the founder of Shero Comics, a multimedia company focused on empowering women and girls of color through storytelling. In 2025, she was honored by the Los Angeles Lakers and Comerica Bank with the Woman of Diversity Award.
