Catherine A. Lee first began exploring poetry as a percussive voice with jazz musicians at a loft performance space she organized in Boston, MA in 1978. Among her successful performances were joint musical readings with her mentor, the late Ted Joans, in 1986-87. Trained in graphic design, and a former Pearson custom textbook project manager, Cathy is primarily self-published, creating altered artist chapbooks in signed, numbered, limited editions; We Free Kin (2009) is her first. Since relocating to San Antonio, TX, Cathy has read often at jam sessions, SA Jazz Poet Society gatherings, and various music-free local readings. Because she believes working with carefully selected music amplifies her poetic content, Cathy has begun earnestly recording her ideas in collaboration with other creative souls and e-publishing these music videos at a Facebook site for all poet friends, Jazz Ovation Inn.
