Ideators (Idea, Concept, Screenplay, etc.):
- You’ve got it easy. Just fill out your W-9 (U.S.) or W-8 BEN (non U.S.), Winner’s Affidavit and IP Assignment Agreement which can be found under the "Clearance Forms" section at the top of the Payments Page of your Profile. Feel free to electronically sign the documents there, or you may download the forms here and then manually upload them back on your Payments Page. In the latter case, be sure to merge and include all pages of the forms.
- Note that you do not need to fill these forms out until a Sponsor selects or greenlights one of your submissions.
Filmmakers:
- Fill out your W-9 (U.S.) or W-8 BEN (non-U.S.), Winner’s Affidavit and IP Assignment (same instructions as above) to receive your initial Pitch payment. In addition to the Clearance Forms mentioned above, we’ll need your credits, releases and masters after production. Items that need your attention will show up in the "To Do" panel on your Dashboard. Click that link to be directed to fill out one or more of the following:
- Credits – Once your Video has been accepted, a Tongal producer will prompt you to fill out your Video Credits which will show up as a to do item in your Dashboard
- Talent – Enter the names and roles of everyone appearing in your Video. This includes extras (even if their face is not seen) and voice-over talent.
- Location – Enter all locations that appear in your video. If your Video takes place in several rooms of a house, you’ll only need to enter one credit for the house. If your Video is animated, you don’t need to add a location.
- Music – If your Video includes original music, please enter the titles and composers of each track used in your Video. If your Video uses one of Tongal’s music providers, please enter the track information and provider name.
- Releases – Once your credits have been approved by Tongal, you’ll receive prompts for any applicable Talent, Location or Music releases on your Dashboard. Please upload each release as an individual PDF file. Be sure to include each page of the Release whether it requires your signature or not.
- Masters – You’ll also be prompted to upload a high resolution master file through your Dashboard. This should be a 1920x1080 .mov file with uncompressed audio and a video codec of either ProRes HQ 422 or Quicktime Animation. Please make sure you have a solid internet connection before starting your upload – files can take a while and, if internet is spotty, they can timeout.
We suggest getting your Talent and Location Releases signed on the day of the shoot. Once all your credits, releases and masters have been approved by Tongal, your payment will be issued.
Payments
Tongal makes payments in two cycles each month. You have until 6:00 PM PST on the 1st or 15th of each month to submit your paperwork/releases. Payments are then processed and sent out the next business day.
You can elect to receive your Tongal payments by Direct Deposit (U.S. Only), Wire Transfer (outside U.S.), or PayPal on the Payments page of your Profile. Click the "Payment Method" dropdown to select one of the following:
- Direct Deposit is only available for U.S. residents and there is no fee. This is the fastest way to receive payments from Tongal in the U.S. After your submission is selected/greenlit, you will have the opportunity to download and fill out the enrollment form via your Dashboard.
- Wire Transfer is available to Tongalers outside the U.S.
- PayPal is also handy for users outside the U.S. Paypal charges a 3% fee on each payment. Check out PayPal’s terms here.
TAXES
If you earn more than $600 from Tongal in a calendar year, we will send you a Form 1099-MISC. Some payments do not have to be reported on Form 1099-MISC, although they may be taxable to the recipient, such as payments to a corporation.
