A preloader in the shape of a lightning bolt

Ideation has evolved significantly on Tongal over the years and we are constantly running different Ideation projects. Pound for pound it’s your best shot at earning money on Tongal!

Brands come to Tongal for that special spark you bring to inspire an individual video or the next great marketing campaign. Familiarize yourself with the following popular ideation phases on Tongal:

Ideation Projects:

  • Idea / Concept: Title and 140 - 250 character submissions for an individual or suite of video executions. Filmmakers will typically expand upon these in their Pitches.
  • Tagline - Catchphrases for brands/products! “Got Milk?”
  • Campaign Idea -  An overall marketing strategy built on universal truths drawn from observations that drive emotional and cerebral connections between a brand and its audience/customer. Read this article for more.
  • Manifesto - An elegant declaration of the principles of a brand’s campaign. In other words: it’s an inspiring essay that shows what a Campaign Idea is all about.
  • Marketing Idea - Concepts for executing and extending a brand’s Campaign Idea in various media. They could be everything from creating a catchy, viral video about train safety to staging a massive stunt extravaganza.

Ideation Tips!

  • The first thing that comes to mind after reading the brief has likely already been thought of by the brand and/or submitted by other Tongalers. Dig a little deeper for that special idea!
  • Spellcheck. If your idea is similar to someone else’s, the most concise and well-written idea will likely be selected by the Sponsor.
  • Mind the budget laid out in the brief by submitting ideas that are fiscally producible.
  • Keep everything in the present, active tense.
  • Don’t write a script. We run scripting phases from time to time. If it’s not called for, we’re not asking for it!
  • Most Projects allow you to submit up to 5 Ideas. Use them all for your best chance at being selected!

Here’s a Great Example

Let’s analyze this selected Zen Baby Zen Idea by ADPT Productions:

  • Short/catchy title that gives you (the filmmakers & Brand) a mental image.
  • The idea is 136 characters, all in active tense, no spelling errors, and very easy to follow.
  • The Country Club location is appropriate with the project budget. Simple and executable.
  • The submission gives a few examples of jokes and scenes, but doesn’t imply what must be included in the script.
  • You understand that it’s a comedy without having to tell us it’s funny. Leaves room for a filmmaker to explore and further develop in their Pitch.

A great spark of an Idea that turned into an awesome commercial and successful ad campaign:
